          Vietnam has a long coastline and vast sea areas. Throughout history, the sea and islands have always held a vital position in the country's economic, political, cultural, and social life. From prehistoric times to the present day, Vietnam has continuously advanced to occupy, explore, settle, establish, and exercise sovereignty over islands and archipelagos in the East Sea.

          To contribute to expressing patriotism and the awareness of protecting the sacred seas and islands of the Vietnamese Fatherland; to continue propagating Vietnam's sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa; and to provide readers with a comprehensive and profound view of Vietnam's sacred sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. In particular, as this is a practical reference document for introducing sea and island sovereignty into agencies and schools, serving the cause of struggling to protect the country's sovereignty in the present and future, Hong Duc Publishing House has published and released the publication: “Vietnam's seas and islands - A long-standing heritage”

          The book's content consists of eight parts:

                    Part I: History of establishing and exercising Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty in the East Sea.

               Part II: Foreign materials and international law on sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

                    Part III: Resolutely protecting the firm sovereignty of Vietnam's seas and islands.

                    Part IV: 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

                    Part V: Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

                    Part VI: 2012 Law of the Sea of Vietnam.

              Part VII: 2015 Law on Marine and Island Resources and Environment (effective from July 1, 2016).

Part VIII: Guidelines for propaganda work on Vietnam's sovereignty over the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
