          The conference "Vietnamese Buddhist Women: Tradition and Modernity," co-organized by the Center for Religious Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, and the Sub-committee for Nuns under the Committee for Buddhist Affairs - Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha, aims to review the traditions of Buddhist women from their origins to the present, as well as to highlight and affirm the role, status, and contributions of the Order of Nuns and Vietnamese Buddhist women in history, daily life, and social work.

          The articles in this proceedings volume focus on these thematic contents, examined by the authors from various perspectives and dimensions.

          The contents of the proceedings include:

                  Part 1: Gender issues in doctrine, philosophy, monastic discipline, and the organization of the Buddhist Sangha from primitive times to the present;

                    Part 2: The role, status, and contributions of Buddhist women in Vietnamese history;

                    Part 3: Vietnamese Buddhist women in contemporary life and social work.
