Prof. Nguyen The Anh (born in 1936 in Laos) is a Vietnamese historian and a professor at the Sorbonne University (France). He is considered a leading historian of Vietnamese history and East Asian history in the world. Most of his works are published in French or English abroad, so the domestic public knows very little about him.

The significance of history in human life is immensely important. If any nation or people lacks history, or knows nothing about their history, they would be no different from a person living without memory, unable to remember anything, forced to repeat inventions already made in the past, solve problems already solved, and fall into mistakes already committed.
