On October 14th, 2021, USSH Library and the Office of External Relations and Research Affairs (ERA) coordinated with IGroup Vietnam to hold the international workshop: “How to successfully publish on Taylor and Francis Group’s Peer-Reviewed Journals”. The workshop, held on GotoWebinar, attracted over 400 participants and more than 600 registrants.
Designed for academic staff and graduates, the international workshop “How to successfully publish on Taylor and Francis Group’s Peer-Reviewed Journals” aims to enable a better understanding of the publishing process on international journals in general, especially on Taylor & Francis’s journal within social sciences and humanities (SSH). By that, it provided participants with guidance on how to write scientific articles and how to publish on Taylor & Francis SSH journal.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Le Hoang Dzung - USSH’s vice president, Dr. Pham Thi Bich Ngoc - deputy head of ERA, MA Bui Thu Hang - director of USSH Library, Ms. Quinie and Ms. Melyani - support team from Taylor & Francis Group in Singapore, speaker Alejandra Black - senior portfolio manager of Taylor & Francis Group in England, Mr. Tri Nguyen - regional manager of IGroup Vietnam, representing Taylor & Francis in Vietnam.
Ms. Alejandra Black has provided a basic overview of the current state of academic publishing according to Taylor & Francis statistics, introduced the publication route of an article (Article ‘Journey’) along with some key considerations to choose the best journal for publication. In addition, she analyzed the Open Access Publishing Model as well as its benefits and challenges.
About secrets for a high-quality article, Ms. Alejandra shared, researchers need to simplify their content, keeping it short and succinct to interpret sophisticated ideas in the clearest way. Moreover, to present their papers in a consistent and easy-to-follow format, they should follow 8 sections of the IMRaD format.
After that, she gave some advice on how to write a stimulating title, provided notes when writing abstracts and placing keywords in your work, and mentioned potential problems related to publication ethics, authorship, etc. Ms. Alejandra Black also covered how to prepare your manuscript for publication, the assessing process, how to reply to editors’ feedback, typical reasons for rejection, and what to do when your work is accepted.
In just 2 hours, Ms. Alejandra has offered participants guidance and support to help them decide and conduct scientific research projects within their capabilities. The organizer stated that they received about 200 questions via email before and 26 questions during the workshop. In the end, they surveyed 130 participants and got positive feedback stating that the workshop was helpful.
