2020 Quality Assurance Conference: Ensuring Quality of Training under the Credit-based System in the Context of Integration and Development

Attending the conference were Dr. Pham Tan Ha, Vice President of the university; Dr. Le Hoang Dung, Vice President of the university; Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Educational Testing and Quality Assessment, VNUHCM; Dr. Bui Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of the Postgraduate Department, VNUHCM; as well as representatives of leadership from quality assurance divisions, experts, researchers, and lecturers from member universities within the VNUHCM system and universities outside of VNUHCM such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Ton Duc Thang University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Lac Hong University… along with leadership from Departments, Offices, Faculties, Divisions, specialized quality assurance officers from various units, and many officials, lecturers, master's students, and doctoral candidates of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Pham Tan Ha emphasized: “Educational quality assurance is the process of implementing monitoring, benchmarking, and supporting activities to identify, evaluate, and improve the quality of university operations (training, scientific research, community service) according to designed quality standards (national or international). Educational quality assurance is essentially ensuring that the university effectively fulfills its missions and activities.”

The 2020 Quality Assurance Conference, with the theme “Ensuring Quality of Training under the Credit-based System in the Context of Integration and Development,” focused primarily on 04 main topics: (1) Practical experience in implementing training under the credit-based system in the current trend of educational development; (2) Improving training quality under the credit-based system to meet national and international standards; (3) Approaches to improving training quality under the credit-based system in response to current requirements; and (4) The role of stakeholders in improving training quality under the credit-based system to meet current requirements.

Overview of the 2020 QA Conference

 

The Organizing Committee selected 17 outstanding papers out of 25 submitted by faculty members from within and outside the university for publication in the proceedings with an ISBN, and 04 presentations were delivered at the conference with the hope that they would continue to suggest improvement plans for the university after the event, contributing to ensuring and enhancing the quality of credit-based training in the context of integration and development.

The conference included 04 presentations delivered by authors on the following topics: (1) “Practical organization of credit-based training in higher education institutions in Taiwan: Lessons learned for Vietnam” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Minh Quang, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM; (2) “International benchmarking of Bachelor's training programs in English Language Teaching in the Philippines and Vietnam” by Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of English Linguistics and Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM; (3) “Experience in using stakeholder opinions to develop, adjust, and evaluate learning outcomes” by MSc. Nguyen Thi Sau, Director of the Center for Quality Assurance, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; and (4) “Applying the PDCA culture to improve the quality of credit-based training organization towards achieving AUN-QA quality standards” by Dr. Nguyen Duy Mong Ha, Director of the Office of Testing and Quality Assurance, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM.

This year's conference topics attracted many interested delegates to exchange, discuss, and share experiences on several credit-based training models and methods, benchmarking of domestic and international training programs; tools and methods for collecting and utilizing stakeholder survey results to develop, adjust, and evaluate course and program learning outcomes; as well as the application of the PDCA culture to improve all aspects of university operations, gradually raising the quality of credit-based training organization towards achieving regional and international standards,…
