EF-ENGO WORKSHOP SERIES ON
“TEACHING ENGLISH ON DIGITAL PLATFORMS”
WORKSHOP 1: ‘Digital Transfer in ELT’
On June 1st, 2022, the very first EF-ENGO workshop titled “Digital Transfer in ELT” took place at Saigon Innovation Hub (SIHUB) with the presence of Dr. Nguyễn Đăng Nguyên, Dean of the Faculty of English Linguistics and Literature (EF), USSH, VNUHCM and Mr. Đoàn Hữu Đức, Chairman & CEO of ENGO, Vietnam Consulting Group (VCG). This workshop aimed to foster teachers’ experience in online English language teaching to prepare for the post-pandemic world and serves as a launching point for the workshop series jointly organized by EF and ENGO to enhance teachers’ competence in applying technology to their teaching practice.
At the event, Mr. Huỳnh Kim Tước emphasized the frequent support from HCMC Department of Science and Technology for such activities, especially those with innovations in English language teaching. Mr. Đoàn Hữu Đức, who is also an EF alumnus, expressed his delight at the fruitful cooperation between the two institutions.
The spotlight was on the two keynote speakers from EF, Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Triều and Ms. Phạm Ngọc Kim Tuyến, who delivered the presentations on ‘Maximizing learner’s engagement in virtual classrooms’ and ‘Vietnamese Students’ Perspectives on Online Micro-Teaching’, respectively. The speakers received great interest from the audience, who are EF MATESOL students, mostly from the 2019 and 2021 cohorts as part of their practicum. In addition, the audience had a chance to experience ENGO ‘EZ To Talk’ program, a flipped online classroom model, presented by ENGO teachers. The experience was more inspiring when it was revealed that the teachers were EF alumni.
WORKSHOP 2 is planned to take place in July 2022 and is hoped to be another resounding success in the series and therefore attracting more participants not only in HCMC but from other provinces in Vietnam.
