Opening of the second phase of the training course on program learning outcomes

Following the success of the first training phase last April, on the morning of May 5, 2025, the Quality Assurance Office and the Academic Affairs Office collaborated to organize the first training session of the second phase of the thematic training course "Guidelines for designing, developing, and measuring, evaluating program learning outcomes".

The content of the second training phase focuses on the topic “Writing course learning outcomes, designing tests and assessments that meet learning outcomes, and rubrics for determining the achievement levels of learning outcomes”. This is an important follow-up step to implement the measurement of learning outcomes synchronously from the program level to individual courses within the training program.

The training session featured presentations and guidance from the speakers:

  • Dr. Hoang Mai Khanh – Director of the Quality Assurance Office,
  • Dr. Cao Thi Chau Thuy – Director of the Academic Affairs Office,
  • M.A. Dinh Van Thach – Specialist of the Academic Affairs Office.

Through detailed presentations and open discussions, the speakers provided faculty members with a clearer perspective on how to build course learning outcomes (CLOs) aligned with program learning outcomes (PLOs), as well as how to connect them with performance indicators (PIs). Specifically, the training session covered the following topics:

  • Guidelines for writing course learning outcomes that are consistent with program learning outcomes, ensuring they are specific, measurable, and clearly outcome-oriented.
  • Guidelines for developing tests and forms of course assessment based on the designed course learning outcomes, ensuring alignment with teaching methods and expected learning outcomes.
  • Analysis of the difference between assessment and grading, clarifying the role of learning assessment in supporting the improvement of teaching and learning quality.
  • Designing rubrics – tools for evaluating the achievement levels of learning outcomes, helping faculty grade consistently, transparently, and provide valuable feedback to learners.
  • Guidelines for connecting program learning outcomes – performance indicators – course learning outcomes and building a course learning outcome matrix, helping to clearly define the role of each course in contributing to the overall learning outcomes of the program.
