The seminar "Cognitive Linguistics and Practical Applications" attracted the attention of many scholars and learners.
On the morning of June 21, 2025, at room C103, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM (Dinh Tien Hoang campus), the Faculty of Linguistics organized a scientific seminar on "Cognitive Linguistics and Practical Applications" with the participation of two speakers: Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Sam, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM. The seminar attracted more than 80 participants, including scholars, researchers; graduate students, master's students and Linguistics students, from many universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Opening the program, Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Sam - a leading expert in the field of cognitive linguistics in Vietnam, presented two papers: "On unidirectional mapping in conceptual metaphors" and "On the concepts of up/down, hard/soft in Vietnamese". The papers opened up many new and interesting perspectives on how people construct and understand the world through conceptual models.

Continuing the program, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung presented a paper “On the concept of ‘Embodiment’ in Cognitive Linguistics”, in which Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung emphasized the role of body experience and physical sensation in the process of forming linguistic thinking. The term “Embodiment” is originally translated into Vietnamese as “nghiem than”. Such a translation does not accurately reflect the connotation of the term, and leads to a lack of understanding of the phenomenon that the term “Embodiment” is used to represent. Therefore, according to Dr. Hoang Trung, the term “Embodiment” must be translated in many different ways depending on the field in which the term is used. The paper raises many issues not only related to correctly understanding the concept and related conceptual system, but also how to apply its connotation in Vietnamese language research practice.

The discussion that followed was lively with many questions, rebuttals and academic sharing from scholars, lecturers and students. The exchanged opinions showed deep interest in the topic of the Seminar.

The seminar is an opportunity for the language research community to exchange and discuss in depth the theoretical and practical issues of Cognitive Linguistics - a research direction that is receiving more and more attention in the context of interdisciplinary and increasingly developing applications.
The seminar ended in an exciting atmosphere, leaving many good impressions on the participants and continuing to affirm the role of the Faculty of Linguistics - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM in connecting the academic community, promoting research and application of cognitive linguistics in Vietnam.
