Talent Program students of the 2021-2025 class successfully defended their university graduation thesis
On the morning of June 9, 2025, at room B4-101, Thu Duc campus (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM), the Faculty of Linguistics organized a graduation thesis defense for students of the Talent Program, course 2021-2025. The defense is an opportunity for students to present the results of their academic research throughout their university years.
The thesis evaluation council includes members: Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung - Head of the Faculty of Linguistics, Chairman; Dr. Dinh Lu Giang - Head of the Vietnamese Linguistics Department, Member; Dr. Phan Thanh Bao Tran - Lecturer, Member and MSc. Le Thi Truc Ha - University Academic Affairs, Secretary.

At the beginning of the defense session, Ms. Le Thi Truc Ha - Secretary of the Council, announced the Decision to establish the Graduation Thesis Evaluation Council in 2025 and presented the working process of the defense session.
Within the framework of this working session, there were 04 topics presented including:
The topic "Phonetic and lexical aspects in expressing aesthetic signals of poetic language in the period 1930-1945" by student Tran Huu An Khuong (Instructor: Dr. Pham Hong Hai) exploited the depth of poetics on two basic levels: phonetic and lexical with material extracted from the anthology "Vietnamese Poets" by Hoai Thanh and Hoai Chan.

The topic "Conceptual Metaphor in Bao Ninh's "The Sorrow of War"" by student Ngo Thi Thuy Trang (Instructor: Master Tran Thi Minh Thu) aims to apply Lakoff and Johnson's theory of metaphor to identify 186 conceptual metaphor models, thereby illuminating the emotional depth and literary thinking of writer Bao Ninh.

The topic "Presuppositions in Southern folk songs" by student Tran Thi Ha Uyen (Instructor: Dr. Nguyen Thuy Nuong) recorded 473 cases of presuppositions in 200 folk songs, thereby highlighting the cultural context, background knowledge and characteristics of folk thinking in the Southern region.

The topic "Conceptual Metaphors through the Character Chi Pheo in the Work of the Same Name by Nam Cao" by student Nguyen Thi Kim Phung (Instructor: Dr. Nguyen Hoang Trung) analyzes 35 conceptual metaphor models, clarifying human tragedies and social discourses through mental mapping in literary texts.

In general, the works have scientific and practical significance; have appropriate research methods; rich sources of materials, and are highly appreciated by the Thesis Evaluation Council. This is the result of the students' serious work and continuous efforts.
The defense session is an opportunity for students to present their research results, and at the same time acknowledge comments and professional suggestions from scientific reviewers and the Council to continue editing and perfecting the topic.
The Faculty of Linguistics would like to congratulate students An Khuong, Thuy Trang, Ha Uyen and Kim Phung for successfully defending their undergraduate theses.
