On August 28, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH-VNUHCM) organized a meeting with Yunnan Normal University and iFLYTEK Corporation. Its aim was to discuss cooperation and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing language teaching quality.
Representing iFLYTEK, Mr. Giai Phi, Chief Engineer and General Manager of Educational Products, introduced advanced AI features that support Chinese language teaching. The highlights include a virtual teacher assistant, incorporated popular language models, enabling real-time 1:1 voice conversations and automated language assessment.

Prof. Dr. Duong Kien, Vice Dean of the College of Chinese Language and Culture at YNNU, stated that the partnership will establish a solid foundation for developing a modern Vietnamese teaching and assessment system. She noted that this collaboration not only meets Chinese students' growing learning demands but also enhances training quality and fosters academic exchanges.

On behalf of USSH-VNUHCM, Dr. Le Hoang Dung, Vice Rector, highly appreciated the application potential of iFLYTEK’s AI system in Chinese language teaching. To facilitate further research and decision-making, the university requested a detailed bilingual documentation package and basic cost frameworks for in-depth discussions.

During the session, representatives from USSH-VNUHCM’s Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, Faculty of Cultural Studies, and Faculty of Oriental Studies contributed practical feedback. Besides proposing to enrich learning contexts with videos illustrating real language usage, the faculties sought to expand student exchange programs, organize experiential activities in China, and co-develop an AI system for learning and assessing Vietnamese proficiency for foreigners.

Concluding the meeting, both sides outlined promising cooperation directions to propel AI applications in foreign language teaching and assessment, thereby broadening academic horizons for lecturers and students while strengthening educational ties between Vietnam and China.

The College of Chinese Language and Culture is a key pillar for YNNU’s internationalization strategy, ranking among top institutions in Southwest China for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
