Dear Distinguished Delegates, Lecturers, and Students,
Today, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, I would like to send my warmest greetings to all the Delegates, Teachers and Students who are attending the Opening ceremony of the academic year 2021-2022.
I am now very happy and moved. Although this year we have been facing many challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, all the University academic staff, at this historic moment, is very pleased to welcome all honorable leaders, companies, organizations, individuals, parents and students and those who love our university to gather here and share our joy at this Opening Day for the 2021-2022 academic year in such an open and connected space like never before.
Dear all beloved newcomer students,
First of all, I would like to congratulate you and your families on the achievement of your twelve-year education from primary to high school, especially your efforts at the final phase of high school when Vietnam and the world were tremendously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Now, you have officially passed a new threshold, i.e., a university entrance where you are going to attend a Bachelor of Arts program at this beloved home - USSH, VNUHCM.
I am proud to share with you that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City has a long history of more than 60 years of establishment and development. It is now the leading center for training and research in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam as well as a prestigious university on its rise to the top of the Asian region.
Dear all beloved students and parents,
As a representative of the University leadership, I am fully aware that parents, society and students, especially newcomer students, are expecting to know what our educational philosophy or educational approach is because everyone cares about the future of their children. However, we all agree that higher education is different from high school education as higher education is the training of high-quality human resources or intellectuals. Therefore, the philosophy of higher education would have to be different.
The students of the current generation are often identified as Gen Z, one characterized by individuality, dynamism, creativity, and openness. Also, they are already grown-up individuals who do not like any imposition.
With the set of core values being Creativity, Leadership, Responsibility and the educational philosophy being Whole person, Liberal, Multicultural, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always creates an open and dynamic learning environment for students to maximize all their potential.
Teachers will accompany students on their path to refresh knowledge and create new knowledge. And during this process, students are the subject. Students are always supposed to be active learners to discover and acquire the treasures of human knowledge and share them with others to build a better and better society. We may not be able to do great things, but great things can be created from the small goodness of each of us. “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean,” said modern Japanese writer Ryunosuke Satoro.

A new path to your future has started. With all the advantages of your young generation, with the responsibilities of a global citizen, and as a USSH-er, I believe you will find a great passion, true meaning and joy during your study in this beloved University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
I would like to wish all delegates, lecturers, and students good health and peace.
