Applying for the 2+2 international joint program for Bachelor of Sciences in English collaborated with the University of Minnesota Crookston (USA)

In 2021, for the first time, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNUHCM) enrolls students for the 2+2 international joint program for Bachelor of Sciences in English collaborated with the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) to offer Vietnamese students the opportunity to experience a high quality program of the USA.

A world-class program 

This is a prestigious program that is highly appreciated by the appraisal council of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City for its training standards, valuable certificates and broad applicability. It is one of the prestigious joint programs offered at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM (USSH-VNUHCM).

Located in Minnesota (USA), University of Minnesota has five large campuses across the state. The University of Minnesota Crookston is one of the five campuses in the University of Minnesota system. It is considered to be a great educational environment with students from many cultures, and characterized by a high spirit of teamwork. This program will equip students with general and specialized English knowledge and skills in both Viet Nam and the USA. It is also a great opportunity for students to experience the educational essence in both environments. Studying for 2 years in Viet Nam, and then 2 years in the USA, students can experience both the Eastearn and Western academic and social environments. For the first two years, students will study with lecturers from USSH VNUHCM at District 1 Campus.  
Transfer students will study at the Liberal Arts and Education Department, UMC. The academic environment at UMC will equip students with the foundation of independent thinking, integration skills, and knowledge sharing, which are the three important pillars of any career. It also helps students acquire knowledge, conduct research and apply the language. Graduates will receive an internationally recognized Bachelor of Science Degree in English from the University of Minnesota Crookston.

A "hot" major with variable career opportunities

The English major at USSH VNUHCM as well as other domestic universities is always a field of study attracting many students who want to explore the colorful world of the English language, the most applicable language in the world. This stems from the fact that this major has global applicability in many different career fields.

Students graduating from this program will have an in-depth understanding and the ability to assess languages, develop critical thinking, and apply English skills in a broad variety of fields. This special program offers wide-ranging career opportunities in the field of education, media, foreign affairs, business, publishing as well as those that require language skills to write and communicate.

Nguyen Anh Quan, Director of the Center for International Education, USSH VNUHCM, said: “The international joint programs are an optimal solution for students who want to study abroad in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The USSH will create the best conditions for students to complete their studying program in Viet Nam before transferring to the USA for the next stage of study.”

Enrollment methods

In 2021, 30 applicants will be admitted through the following enrollment methods: 

• Method 1: The result of the National High School Graduation Examination with three combination of subjects: D01 (Literature, Maths, English), D14 (Literature, History, English), D15 (Literature, Geography, English)
• Method 2: The result of the Competency Assessment Examination administered by the Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City;
• Method 3: The directly prioritized admission policy for high school students under the regulation of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City;
• Method 4:  The combination of the result of high school transcripts with the combination of subjects Math-Literature-English, in which 7.0 or higher is required for English.

The application is submitted to the Center for International Education. Applications will be closed on September 17, 2021 and the Program starts from the beginning of October 2021.
