Admission to the TESOL Certificate Joint Training Program in association with Arizona State University (USA)
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City is admitting students in the TESOL Certificate Joint Program in association with Arizona State University (ASU), USA for Cohort 1 of the academic year 2020.

* TESOL - Essential certificate in English language teaching
According to a statistic published in April 2020 by Statisca, at present, there are nearly 1.5 billion English speakers, accounting for 20% of the world's population. This is a staggering number compared to other existing or global languages. English is and will be used in almost all important fields such as international commerce, diplomacy, education, research, entertainment, communication, technology, etc.
In Vietnam, English education is receiving a lot of attention because of the high demand for this global language. As evidenced by the fact that the English Language major's admission score criteria at universities always rank among the TOP 5. English teaching professions are also very popular due to their high demand and good income. Qualifications or certificates in English language teaching such as TESOL, especially certificates issued by prestigious educational institutions, are prerequisite requirements from employers.
* Arizona State University - Prestigious University in the USA
Arizona State University - ASU is a public university with a rich history. Founded in 1885, ASU has by far the largest total annual student population in the United States with approximately 90,000 students as of fall 2019. ASU ranked # 1 for Most Innovative Schools by USN in the spring of 2019. In addition, the University is ranked 10th in Best Undergraduate Teaching and 53rd out of 100 Top Public Schools in the US (*).
The joint program certificate between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM and ASU is jointly issued by the two universities and has global value. As its predecessors were long-term and university degree courses, the program takes advantage of its experienced teaching staff and an extensive library of specialized English teaching materials accumulated over the past 50 years.
The success of this TESOL Certificate Joint Program is also measured by the success of its students after completing the course. The latest ASU survey shows that:
- 49% of students shared that they have found a new job in the field of English teaching
- 50% of students acquired practical benefit from the course
- 25% of students received a salary increase or promotion after receiving the certificate.
* Flexible, quality learning methods
For the theoretical courses, students study 07 online courses provided and managed 100% by ASU. The online learning schedule is flexible to suit learners who are working or are lecturers, students, etc. The courses of the program include:
- Foundational Principles - 10 hours
- Theories of Second Language Acquisition - 12 hours
- Lesson Planning - 16 hours
- Applied Project - 18 hours
- Listening, Speaking & Pronunciation - 16 hours
- Reading, Writing & Grammar - 19 hours
- Technology Enriched Teaching - 19 hours
*Especially: since online learning and teaching are becoming more popular during the global pandemic, ASU offers students the first course of How to Teach Online - 2 hours as a bonus.
For the Practicum - 40 hours, students have 2 options:
- Practicum in Vietnam with the supervision and evaluation of lecturers of USSH, VNU-HCM
- Practicum in the United States with the supervision and evaluation of ASU lecturers.
* Note: Depending on the actual situation, if the Covid-19 epidemic becomes more complicated, the possibility of going to practice in the United States may be postponed or organized together with Cohort 2.

* Diverse admission: Program candidates need to meet one of the following criteria:
- Graduated from a university with a degree in English or English Language Teaching
- Graduated from a university with an English-taught program
- Have a 7.0 IELTS certificate or above
- Currently working as an English teacher at a legal institution
* Internationally recognized degree: USSH, VNU-HCM and ASU jointly issue the TESOL certificate for students who complete the course.

- Students submit a copy of one of the following documents:
+ For students who speak English as a second language: University Degree (Bachelor, Master...) majoring in English Teaching, English Language
+ For students who speak English as a first language: University Degree (Bachelor, Master...)
+ IELTS certificate of 7.0 or above or other equivalent international certificates
+ A document proving that the candidate is currently an English teacher at a legal educational center/ institution
* Tuition fees
- Online learning and complete practicum in Vietnam: 1,299 USD
- Online learning and praticum in the US: 1,800 USD (excluding the visa cost, plane tickets, accommodation and living expenses)
* Admission period: from September 5 to October 19, 2020
* Enrollment date: October 20, 2020
