The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea met with Vietnamese students in Ho Chi Minh City
On March 20, the High-Level Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea led by National Assembly Chairman Chung Ui-Hwa met with lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, National University of Ho Chi Minh City (USSH, VNU-HCM) in Ho Chi Minh City.

Chung Ui-Hwa discussed with the school the topic of bilateral relations with Vietnam-the Republic of Korea (RoK) since the 23 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He believed that cultural and historical similarities between Vietnam and RoK, along with the contributions of young people, especially students, will be the foundation for developing and strengthening bilateral relations.
According to statistics, about 130,000 Koreans are living in Vietnam while more than 120,000 Vietnamese people are living and working in Korea. There are also many mixed couples with one spouse being Korean and the other Vietnamese. Chung Ui-Hwa believed that the similarities in upholding community and family values, and marriage between Vietnamese and Korean couples will be another factor connecting both nations.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2015), the Chairman congratulated the students in particular and Vietnamese people in general on their achievements in the past 40 years. He stated that with a young population structure, including students who are well-equipped with knowledge, Vietnam has the potential to develop the country. In order for Vietnamese students to do that, they should learn and practice the moral codes of President Ho Chi Minh- who had great merits in regaining the national liberation of Vietnam.
As for education, Vietnam now has 13 universities and colleges offering research and training programs about Korea; and Korea has 4 universities with Vietnamese language departments in return. According to Dr. Nguyen Khac Canh, Vice President of the University, USSH is now considered a leading institution in Korean studies in Vietnam. After more than 20 years, the Faculty of Korean Studies has qualified more than 2,000 students graduating with stable jobs. This assemblage contributes to the promotion of Vietnam-Korea relations, socio-economic and political diplomacy development, and finally aiming for global integration.
