
On February 22nd, 2023, a group of students from Meiji University, Japan went on an academic field trip to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd. This trip is a part of the Viet Nam Study Program organized by the Center for International Education, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM.

Accompanying the students were Mr. Tran Nam - Deputy Director of the Center for International Education and Ms. Devera - Senior Assistant Professor of the School of Political Science and Economics, Meiji University. While visiting the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the students were greeted by Mr. Masuda Chikahiro - Chief Representative of JICA Branch Office in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Chikahiro shared about the JICA organization, the relationship between Japan and Vietnam as well as the projects that JICA is currently implementing in Vietnam.

Through the trip, Meiji University students learned more about JICA's activities in the world as well as in Vietnam, and the relationship between Vietnam and Japan in terms of culture, economy, and politics... In addition, the JICA representative introduced voluntary activities and charities participated by Japanese students at hospitals in Vietnam.

Students from Meiji University, Japan majoring in Political Science, Economics, and Law were fascinated by the presented topics. They raised various questions about cooperation projects and the relationship between Japan and Vietnam such as the growth trend of workers from Vietnam to Japan, the projects to improve the water environment in Ho Chi Minh City, the development trend in the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, etc.

After their visit to JICA, the students visited the office of AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd. At the AEON office, the students were pleased to meet Mr. Aono Keizo, Senior Operation General Manager of AEON Mall Celadon.
Mr. Keizo's introduction revolved around the consumer trend of the Vietnamese market after COVID-19, the Vietnamese GDP annual growth trend, 5 AEON Vietnam policies, the development history, strengths, competition for AEON in the Vietnamese market as well as predictions of the market growth trends. Furthermore, Mr. Keizo also enthusiastically shared his personal experiences as a Japanese person living and working in Vietnam.

At the end of the visit, students from Meiji University shared that they learned useful information about the economic activities in the Vietnamese market and hoped to participate in similar academic trips in the near future.

The Viet Nam Study Program is organized by the Center for International Education to provide international students with the opportunity to learn about Vietnamese history, culture, society, and economy taught directly by lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Moreover, when participating in the program, students are given the chance to go on field trips to historical sites, museums, and famous tourist attractions in Ho Chi Minh City.
In recent years, the program has attracted a lot of attention from international partner universities in Japan, Korea, and Thailand, etc.
