“Be better than you were yesterday even if it's just 1%” - Ueno Megumi

On behalf of over 3,500 newly enrolled students at the opening ceremony for the academic year 2023, Ueno Megumi, student of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, delivered her speech.

The student of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies expressed her honor for the effort that she and other students have made to enroll at USSH VNUHCM, "Whether you’re a Vietnamese or an international student, you must have been determined and tried very hard to be here today, at this very moment". 

She believed that the university, with its diversity of majors, prestigious quality of education, and multicultural environment, is not only the top choice of students but also parents who want to send their children there to follow the dreams of their own. 

"Even if it's difficult, don't give up! Take each step slowly but surely. Be better than you were yesterday even if it’s just 1%," said Ueno Megumi. She also hoped that her peers would have self-discipline for studying in a new environment. Though they encounter difficulties, they would not give up but strive for success.

As a Japanese person with both parents living in Viet Nam, Ueno Megumi could not help but to feel confused and worried when applying to USSH VNUHCM. But once she became a part of it, she felt extremely assured in choosing the University as her companion for the next four years of education.

Through her speech, Ueno Megumi brought her excitement for the new academic year at the University to all the students at the ceremony. Universities will be a place where students encounter difficulties or challenges they may face in life. But they should not be discouraged because even if they try just 1% harder, they will become better every day.
