International scientific activity at the Faculty of Urban Studies with the topic "Essential factors to promote the selection of locations for large-scale solar power projects in Vietnam - focusing on acceptance of local communities" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuya Sato from Toyota College of KOSEN training system, National Institute of Technology NIT, Japan
On the morning of May 30, 2024, at room B204, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dinh Tien Hoang campus, a scientific activity was held by the Faculty of Urban Studies to share information with students with content close to the training program and current concerns of society. The topic is related to the construction of solar energy projects and factors affecting the acceptance of local communities after operating these projects. This topic is part of the results of the joint research program of Prof. Dr. Yuya Sato and the Faculty of Urban Studies in the 2023-2024 academic year. Prof. Dr. Yuya Sato is currently working as a researcher at Toyota College, KOSEN training system, National Institute of Technology NIT, Japan. His research area is urban planning and development, especially for rural areas and small cities, and the issue of carbon neutrality in urban areas is a new field that is popular in this century.
During nearly 1 year in Vietnam, he and the Faculty of Urban Studies conducted a survey of some small cities near Ho Chi Minh City such as Long An, Ba Ria, Vung Tau, which have built a number of solar energy projects to collect people's opinions on factors of understanding the project with the assumption of the relationship between distance and interest. The survey results show that people living far from the project will be less interested in the project than those living near the project because the impacts of the project are easy to see. Other results will continue to be analyzed and researched in the future. Students had the opportunity to interact and ask questions to compare with him about the difficulties in the survey process, about the reality of implementing solar energy projects in Vietnam and Japan. These comparative sharings help students visualize the impact of policies on people in every country, with difficulties and achievements. Opinions from the people will play an important role in helping to build more practical and community-friendly policies.
