

On July 5, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (USSH, VNU-HCMC) organized a national scientific conference titled "U.S.-China Competition and Its Impact on Southeast Asia." The conference clarified various aspects and content regarding the implementation methods and assessment of the impacts of U.S.-China competition in Southeast Asia in specific areas, organized by the Faculty of International Relations.

Professor Dr. Hoàng Khắc Nam from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, stated that the competition between the United States and China is always of great importance as it significantly impacts global political life, including that of Southeast Asia. Therefore, conducting comprehensive and timely research on this competition will assist Vietnam in adjusting its policies and making informed predictions about the complex dynamics of U.S.-China competition.

The conference presented 44 research papers, of which 33 were selected for inclusion in the proceedings titled "U.S.-China Competition and Its Impact on Southeast Asia." The event comprised two sessions: the first, chaired by Professor Dr. Hoàng Khắc Nam and Dr. Nguyễn Tăng Nghị, addressed "U.S.-China Competition and Its Impacts on Southeast Asia," while the second, chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Trần Nam Tiến and Associate Professor Dr. Võ Xuân Vinh, examined "U.S.-China Competition and the Responses of Southeast Asian Countries."

The first session featured presentations including "U.S.-China Competition: Focus and Trends" by Dr. Hoàng Huệ Anh, "U.S.-China Influence Competition in Southeast Asia" by Associate Professor Dr. Võ Xuân Vinh, and "U.S.-China Soft Power Competition in Southeast Asia" by Dr. Trần Nguyên Khang. This session elucidated the concept of competition, future trends, and China's strategic responses to U.S. influence, with a particular emphasis on soft power dynamics in Southeast Asia.
The second session included presentations such as "Myanmar in the U.S.-China Geopolitical Competition" by Dr. Nguyễn Tuấn Bình, "Connectivity in the Mekong Subregion Amid U.S.-China Competition" by Master Trần Quỳnh Hương, and "Impacts and Responses of ASEAN Countries" by Dr. Nguyễn Tuấn Khanh. This session focused on the implications of U.S.-China competition for ASEAN and the responses of Southeast Asian nations to this rivalry

The conference also fostered scholarly engagement through questions and comments from researchers and students. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Nguyễn Tăng Nghị highlighted the success of the conference in facilitating a substantive discourse on U.S.-China competition in Southeast Asia and expressed optimism that the insights garnered would contribute to the refinement of Vietnam's future foreign policy.
