With the aim of developing knowledge and skills related to detection, diagnosis and treatment of abused children. The Faculty of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM has collaborated with the SOS enfants team of the Free University of Brussels and Dynamo International to organize the Project "Strengthening the capacity of mental health care for abused children inside and outside the family" to be implemented in the period 2025 - 2027, including:

  • Dr. Brigitte VANTHOURNOUT - Child psychiatrist, psychotherapist, Coordinator of the SOS enfants team of the Free University of Brussels;
  • MSc. Elodie DUCHÊNE - Clinical psychologist, psychotherapist.
  • Team of psychiatrists and psychologists from the SOS Enfants center of the Free University of Brussels.

Project information:

  • Participants: Master's students in psychology; Lecturers of the Faculty of Psychology - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City; Psychologists, sociologists, social workers from early disability diagnosis centers, child and youth care, etc.
  • Form: From 4 to 6 training sessions, distributed in the years 2025-2026-2027 with the same group of students. The SOS enfants ULB team will participate throughout the process, from the beginning to the end, possibly in the form of a scientific workshop chaired by lecturers from Ho Chi Minh City. Each training session has one lecturer and lasts from 5 to 10 training days, including: Theoretical training sessions; Supplemental practical content (presenting tests, supervising cases, visiting centers, etc.)
  • The courses will be taught in French and have Vietnamese translation.

The training content includes:

  • Legal framework in the field of child protection in Vietnam;
  • Priority treatment methods used in Vietnam;
  • Perceptions of children and adolescents in Vietnamese culture;
  • This project is built with the perspective that, in order to provide quality treatment care for abused children, it is necessary to:
  • Conduct a comprehensive diagnosis, considering the child's personal aspects (emotions, cognitions, relationships) as well as family dynamics and the child's position within those dynamics;
  • Consider the resources of the child and of the child's family.

Scheduled courses:

  • Module 1-2: Detection, assessment, diagnosis of abuse cases and implementation tools (April 21, 2025 - April 25, 2025)
  • Module 3-4: Clinical case study/monitoring and treatment indications (expected February 2026)
  • Module 5-6: Intervention and protection of abused children from perinatal to adolescence (expected February 2027)
