On the morning of January 17, at the Headquarters of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), the second scientific symposium titled "30 Years of Development of VNU-HCM" took place. The event gathered scholars, experts, and VNU-HCM leaders as part of a series of activities commemorating the university’s three-decade journey. The symposium aimed to facilitate discussions and contributions to refine the scientific project "30 Years of Development of VNU-HCM," shaping future strategies for the university’s advancement.

The project, entrusted to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the University of Economics and Law, commenced in June 2024. It seeks to document key achievements, identify challenges, and consolidate VNU-HCM’s development model. Dr. Lê Hoàng Dũng, Vice Rector, serves as the project leader.

Opening the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai, Vice President of VNU-HCM, emphasized the symposium’s significance as an opportunity to reflect on the university’s evolution and address future challenges. She called for expert contributions to enhance the final report, forming a basis for innovative policies and strategic breakthroughs. “Looking back allows us to move forward with confidence. VNU-HCM’s future lies in sustainable development, meeting expectations set by the Party, Government, and society,” she stated.

The symposium featured in-depth discussions on VNU-HCM’s core developmental aspects over the past 30 years. Presentations were recognized for their meticulous research and scientific rigor, highlighting the university’s substantial contributions to higher education in Vietnam. One of the key presentations, delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hà Minh Hồng, Former Head of the History Department, outlined VNU-HCM’s strategic vision over three decades. The report underscored the university’s pioneering role in shaping a model national university, driving higher education reform, and contributing to socio-economic development.

Other presentations showcased VNU-HCM’s achievements in education, quality assurance, and scientific research. Speakers emphasized curriculum innovation, the establishment of international-standard learning outcomes, and improved educational environments. The university's significant contributions to research and technology transfer were also noted, with high-impact projects fostering national development. Additionally, discussions highlighted VNU-HCM’s role as a comprehensive educational ecosystem that integrates community engagement and fosters global partnerships, enhancing opportunities in research, training, and international integration.

A noteworthy presentation by Dr. Lê Hoàng Dũng, titled "Toward a Sustainable Development Model for VNU-HCM," provided an overview of the university’s past achievements and outlined strategic directions for future growth. He stressed the necessity of governance reform, alignment with global educational trends, and a focus on excellence in teaching, research, and technology transfer.

Dr. Lê Hoàng Dũng also proposed the development of a diverse educational ecosystem integrating research and training to foster an innovative and comprehensive learning environment. He asserted that achieving these goals would ensure VNU-HCM's continued growth while strengthening Vietnam’s higher education system to meet societal demands and global integration requirements.

Following the presentations, Dr. Lê Hoàng Dũng moderated a discussion session, where experts, scholars, and delegates provided insights to refine the "30 Years of Development of VNU-HCM" report. The discussion focused on accurately reflecting achievements, identifying areas for improvement, and proposing practical solutions to enhance education quality, scientific research, and international collaboration. The valuable contributions will help shape strategic initiatives to ensure VNU-HCM’s robust and sustainable development in the coming decades.
