MASTER'S THESIS DEFENSE PROCEDURE
- Students who complete their thesis and successfully defend it within 2 years from the date of the decision recognizing their admission are considered on schedule.
- After these 2 years, students must write a Request for Extension of Thesis Defense Time, explain the reasons, and include the signature of their supervisor to submit to the Faculty. Students will have an additional 2 years to defend their thesis (For detailed information, Academic Affairs will contact the Department of Postgraduate Training, Postgraduate division to obtain a receipt and send it to the student; Students pay the fee to the Finance Department before the Master's thesis defense date. After payment is completed, students take a screenshot/receipt and email it to Academic Affairs).
- Note: Students must ensure they submit their Thesis Defense Application Dossier to Academic Affairs at least 4~6 WEEKS before the expiration date (2 years/ 4 years) to ensure they are defended within the prescribed time.
- After 4 years from the date of the decision recognizing their admission, if there are reasonable grounds, students may submit an Explanation Letter along with evidence together with the complete Application for Defense dossier to the Faculty. However, whether a student is permitted to defend will be decided by Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
- When ready to defend and approved by the supervisor, students must collect the documents listed in the Master's Thesis Defense Application Form and submit them to the Faculty.
- Note:
The validity period of a foreign language certificate is 2 years. After passing the foreign language exam, students can submit it immediately to the Department of Academic Affairs, Postgraduate division for recognition of meeting the standard.
Avoid the situation where the foreign language certificate is expired/nearly expired at the time of submitting the dossier)
Submission for recognition of meeting the standard should only be done when there is a significant amount of time remaining between the certificate's validity and the defense date.
For example, if a student belongs to the 2022(1) cohort and takes the foreign language exam in December 2022 but defends their Master's thesis in 2025 -> then they should submit for recognition at that time. In case the student takes the foreign language exam in February 2023 and defends the Master's thesis in September 2023, then they DO NOT need to submit for recognition of meeting the standard.
The thesis copy submitted for the Dossier only needs to be printed ONE-SIDED, soft cover, and must have the supervisor's signature (on the cover or inner page).
Scientific articles must be related to the Master's thesis topic. Photocopy the cover page, table of contents, and the page with the index number (if any).
