The University Presents a Letter of Appreciation to the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City

On the afternoon of April 28, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) held a meeting and presented a letter of appreciation to Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan – Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City – in recognition of his notable contributions to promoting educational cooperation, cultural exchange, and student engagement between the two nations.

An overview of the meeting

Delivering the speech at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, President of the University, expressed deep appreciation for his dedicated and impactful efforts throughout his tenure. She stressed that the beginning of Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan’s term coincided with the time when Ho Chi Minh City was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, his unwavering support and active presence not only helped sustain cooperative activities but also conveyed a powerful message of friendship and solidarity between Indonesia and Vietnam.

Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan highlighted not only his strong support for the Indonesian Studies major, but also his vital role in fostering awareness of Indonesian culture, language, and spirit within the academic community and among Vietnamese students. She also praised his close connection with faculty and students, especially his efforts to participate in key university events despite his tight schedule.

In response, Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the University for its ongoing support and partnership during his time in Ho Chi Minh City. He affirmed that USSH, VNUHCM, is one of Indonesia’s most valued educational partners – not only in promoting Indonesian culture and language but also in serving as a bridge for friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

He also commended the dedication and enthusiasm of the faculty and students in the Indonesian Studies major. He emphasized that education is a solid foundation for strengthening the Vietnam–Indonesia strategic partnership. “People-to-people connections – especially through universities – are key to deepening and sustaining bilateral relations in the years to come,” he stated.

Thanks to the support of Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, the University’s Indonesian Studies program has continued to grow in prominence, drawing increased attention from the local community and Indonesian businesses operating in Vietnam. A variety of cultural and academic initiatives have been successfully organized, helping to spread humanistic values, foster mutual understanding, and enhance student engagement between the two nations.

At the close of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan presented a letter of appreciation and a commemorative gift to Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan, as a gesture of sincere gratitude for his valuable contributions. Although his term in Ho Chi Minh City is nearing its end, the legacy of his efforts – particularly in education and cultural exchange – will continue to be preserved and further developed, symbolizing the enduring and deepening friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia.
