VNUHCM-USSH Hosts Talkshow #03: Young Generation in the Nation’s Rise Era

On the afternoon of March 21, at the Văn Khoa Auditorium, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), hosted the third edition of VNU-HCM’s Guest Talkshow Series titled “The Young Generation in the Nation’s Rise Era.” The event aimed to foster student engagement with renowned speakers, promote civic responsibility, and inspire youth to contribute to personal and national development.
Featured speakers included four Outstanding Young Citizens of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024: Dr. Phạm Thanh Tuấn Anh (Deputy Head of the High-Tech Materials Laboratory, University of Science, VNU-HCM), Captain Phan Hữu Trung Quý (Military Command of Hóc Môn District), Muay Thai athlete Huỳnh Hà Hữu Hiếu, Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu, and MC Khánh Vy, recipient of the 2024 Vietnam iContent Awards and Ambassador of the “Green Leadership” initiative.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai, Vice President of VNU-HCM, emphasized the enthusiasm, patriotism, and resilience of Vietnamese youth. She highlighted the critical need for creativity and adaptability in today’s rapidly evolving era. VNU-HCM, she noted, is striving to become a top-tier university in Asia, fostering talent, disseminating knowledge, and leading national efforts in science, technology, and digital transformation.

During the Talkshow, each speaker shared insights from their personal and professional journeys. Captain Quý stressed that national development and defense are collective responsibilities. He encouraged young people to embrace accountability, unity, and active social contribution, regardless of scale.

Dr. Phạm Thanh Tuấn Anh highlighted the pivotal role of youth in national development. He encouraged students to be lifelong learners and innovators, to safeguard core cultural values, and to integrate global knowledge in a balanced way. He underscored the necessity of harmonizing tradition and modernity in order to build a solid foundation for long-term, sustainable national advancement.

From a humanitarian perspective, Miss Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu underscored the importance of nurturing both intellect and compassion. She suggested that philanthropic engagement not only contributes to societal development but also spreads kindness and positivity. By fostering emotional connection and social cohesion, such efforts help individuals internalize the value of living for others and actively building a more humane society.

Athlete Huỳnh Hà Hữu Hiếu shared her disciplined routine in Muay Thai training, reflecting on the challenges of maintaining championship status. She noted that consistent effort, scientific training, and meticulous preparation are crucial to sustaining performance at the highest level. Her story exemplified perseverance, focus, and long-term commitment to excellence.

MC Khanh Vy emphasized the significance of knowledge acquisition, especially in the context of global integration. She advocated for cultural understanding and linguistic competence, noting that mastering foreign languages must go hand-in-hand with preserving the Vietnamese language and national identity. In her view, sustainable development in a globalized world requires a firm grounding in one's cultural roots.

The event’s interactive segment saw enthusiastic participation from students, who posed a wide array of questions—ranging from academic concerns to real-world issues such as soft skills development, personal growth in the digital era, and challenges of globalization. The speakers responded with practical strategies and inspirational perspectives, offering students valuable guidance for both academic pursuits and future careers.
At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Pham Tan Ha, Vice Rector of USSH, and Dr. Nguyen Minh Huyen Trang, Deputy Head of Student Affairs at VNU-HCM presented meaningful gifts to the guest speakers in appreciation of their insightful contributions.
