Flag-Raising Ceremony "Proud to be USSH – Ready for a New Era"

On May 5, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH VNUHCM), held a flag-raising and patriotic gathering under the theme “Welcoming a New Era.”

This meaningful event was part of the activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025). It served as both a tribute to a heroic past and a declaration of the University's alignment with the nation's forward-looking vision—an era of prosperity, civility, and aspirations for global reach.

In his remarks, Dr. Phan Thanh Định, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the University, emphasized that the ceremony was not only a moment to honor and remember generations who sacrificed for independence, but also an opportunity to inspire national pride in the historic milestone of reunification.

“The peace and independence we enjoy today are the fruits of the sacrifices of countless individuals,” he said. “Blood was shed so that we may live in peace, pursue education, and realize our dreams.” He expressed his belief in the young generation—those entrusted with continuing the revolutionary legacy, cherishing historical values, and playing a vital role in building the country.

On this special occasion, Dr. Phan Thanh Định also extended heartfelt gratitude to the University’s educators—some of whom once defended the nation and continue to make dedicated contributions to education and training. Their sense of responsibility, patriotism, and teaching commitment make them living symbols of inspiration for future generations of students.

Also delivering a powerful message at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan, Party Committee Deputy Secretary and President of the University, affirmed the sacred significance of April 30, 1975—a historic turning point that ushered in an era of independence and freedom for Vietnam and laid the foundation for today’s nation-building and development. Amidst the country’s transformation and deepening integration into the global arena, she emphasized the University’s responsibility to innovate boldly and fulfill its educational mission to the fullest.

Prof. Lan also voiced her strong belief in the USSH students—courageous, creative individuals destined to lead in the era of knowledge, technology, and innovation. She called on all faculty, staff, and students to continuously learn, improve professional competencies, and strive for excellence in every task. Above all, she encouraged everyone to align personal growth with collective progress, to nurture solidarity, and to contribute meaningfully to the development of the University, the VNUHCM system, and the nation at large.

The flag-raising and patriotic gathering under the theme “Welcoming a New Era” stirred deep feelings of patriotism and national pride, igniting hope and ambition within each participant. The USSH students—born into peacetime, equipped with intellect and passion—are poised to lead the University into the future with confidence and courage.

The ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of unity and determination, as the University community resounded with the rallying cry from the Rector: “USSH People – Ready for a New Era,” symbolizing the collective will and commitment of faculty, staff, and students to unite, innovate, and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the cause of education.
