USSH VNUHCM Holds Ceremony to Announce Appointment and Reappointment of Vice Presidents
On August 6, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH VNUHCM) held a ceremony to announce the appointment and reappointment of the university’s Vice Presidents. At the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết was appointed Vice President, while Dr. Lê Hoàng Dũng was reappointed to the same position.
The ceremony was attended by leaders of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM), including:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vũ Hải Quân, Member of the Party Central Committee, Party Secretary, and President;
- Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai, Vice President;
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Cao Vinh, Vice President;
- Dr. Lê Thị Anh Trâm, Deputy Party Secretary and Head of the Personnel and Organization Office;
- representatives of member universities and affiliated units.
From Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU), Prof. Dr. Hoàng Anh Tuấn, Party Committee Member and President, was also present.
From USSH VNUHCM, attendees included:

Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan delivers remarks, assigning duties and expressing expectations for the newly appointed and reappointed Vice Presidents
In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan congratulated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết and Dr. Lê Hoàng Dũng, while also expressing deep gratitude to Dr. Phạm Tấn Hạ for his outstanding contributions and dedication throughout his terms in office. The President stressed that the role of Vice President is not only a great honor but also a heavy responsibility, requiring courage, dedication, and the willingness to sacrifice for the greater good. “Leadership is not about enjoying a position—it is a journey of commitment and sharing. Only when we place collective interests above all else can we overcome challenges,” she said. She expressed confidence that, with their experience and capacity, the two Vice Presidents would join the executive board in steering the “Humanities ship” steadily through new contexts, strengthening the distinctive role of social sciences and humanities, and contributing to the sustainable development of both the university and VNU-HCM as a whole.

In his acceptance speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết said that taking on the new responsibility is not a personal affirmation, but a journey of service marked by humility, openness, and a strong sense of responsibility toward the university’s mission. He pledged to contribute to USSH’s overall development strategy amid rapid changes in higher education, emphasizing that any future success would be the result of unity and shared commitment across the entire system. He concluded by affirming that education is not merely preparation for life but life itself, and expressed the honor of continuing to devote himself to the institution that has nurtured and shaped him for more than three decades.

Also at the ceremony, Dr. Phạm Tấn Hạ was honored with a commemorative medal by the President of VNUHCM in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the university and to the VNUHCM system as a whole. The award not only acknowledges his achievements but also serves as a testament to his tireless dedication throughout his career. As an experienced academic leader, Dr. Phạm Tấn Hạ has left a lasting legacy in teaching, training, scientific research, and in shaping a modern, human-centered university environment.
