Signing Ceremony between USSH VNUHCM and CJ CGV Vietnam
On August 12, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH VNUHCM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CJ CGV Vietnam. The partnership aims to foster collaboration in training, research, and human resource development—particularly in journalism, communications, literature, arts, and cinema.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan, President of USSH, expressed her admiration for the scale and development vision of CJ CGV Vietnam, especially the cultural, artistic, and entertainment values the company has been shaping. She emphasized that these areas closely align with the university’s strengths as a leading institution in social sciences and humanities, with experienced faculty and a dynamic, creative student community. According to her, the collaboration will help both sides maximize their existing potential and generate lasting synergies. The university will contribute academic resources, research, and high-quality personnel, while CJ CGV Vietnam will provide training, practical environments, and expanded career opportunities for faculty and students.

On behalf of CJ CGV Vietnam, Mr. Ko Jae Soo, General Director, noted that the company not only operates a nationwide cinema chain but is also the country’s largest film distributor and an active investor and producer of numerous film projects. This, he said, provides a solid foundation for diverse forms of collaboration with the university. In the context of Vietnam’s rapidly growing film and cultural industries, both sides have abundant opportunities to create platforms for young talent. CJ CGV Vietnam is committed to supporting creative activities, promoting student works, exploring literary-to-film adaptation projects, and nurturing emerging cinematic talents.

During the signing ceremony, faculty representatives also engaged in practical discussions with the partner about learning resources and expanding opportunities for students. Dr. Triệu Thanh Lê, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, shared that the faculty offers two majors: Journalism and Multimedia Communication, with audiovisual production playing a key role. “Students are trained in scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and content creation skills. We hope CJ CGV Vietnam will join us in inviting experts to teach, share industry experience, and sponsor our annual Student Film Festival,” she said.

In the field of literature and arts, Dr. Đào Lê Na, Head of the Art Studies Division, Faculty of Literature, noted that the curriculum emphasizes integrating theory with practice, particularly in screenwriting. “Cinema is a ‘superpower’ in transmitting culture, knowledge, and human values. We hope to work with CJ CGV Vietnam to establish regular film screenings combined with discussions to spread these values,” she shared. Dr. Đào Lê Na also expressed hopes for student internship programs at CJ CGV Vietnam, as well as specialized workshops and extracurricular activities as part of the partnership.

Following the discussions, both sides officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement outlines a range of initiatives, including:
- Organizing free film screenings and discussions for USSH students, faculty, and staff;
- Sponsorship of cinema facilities and brand communication activities;
- Supporting student creative projects and short films;
- Co-organizing internships or digital content production related to cinema for students of Literature, Journalism, Cultural Studies, Theater and Film, Korean Studies, and other fields;
- Co-publishing materials on cultural criticism and film analysis;
- Promoting other mutually beneficial collaborative activities.
