The Symbolism of the Department of Urban Studies Emblem

The emblem was officially adopted on April 18, 2007. The copyright of the emblem and logo belongs to the Department and was designed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa.

The emblem is regularly used by teachers and students throughout the academic year and on significant occasions. Additionally, it is presented as an honorary gift to lecturers, visiting professors, distinguished guests, and individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of the Urban Studies field.

Dimensions of the emblem: 30 x 27 mm

The emblem features a dark brown background, symbolizing the homeland's land and the urban landscape. Most cities are formed along coastlines and river basins, hence urban land is continually filled and enriched over generations. Land is the most crucial component of urban areas.

The emblem is divided equally by a winding line. This line represents the transportation system (the urban body's arteries), reminiscent of the winding rivers of the Mekong Delta—a vital characteristic, as virtually every city or town in the region is situated alongside a river or canal.

In the upper left corner of the emblem, there is a block of three high-rise towers. This symbolizes a modern city, where the pinnacle of science, technology, and innovation converge.

In the lower right corner, there is a stylized lotus flower. The lotus flower is a symbol of the nation's culture, representing the noble spirit of Vietnam. The image of the lotus flower reminds urban planners of the important philosophy that modernity and progress must not forsake traditional cultural values.

Below the emblem are two lines of text abbreviating the university and department names: USSH (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and FUS (Faculty of Urban Studies).

The emblem represents the unit, the academic prestige of the department, and the honor of each member. Therefore, whenever teachers wear it, they must live up to its significance and consistently strive to enhance its reputation.
