USSH VNUHCM Affirms Its Position at IACSC 2025 to Host the IACSC 2027 in Ho Chi Minh City

On August 4, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH VNUHCM) took part in the 16th International Conference and Symposium of the International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC), held at Hasanuddin University, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The event brought together more than 110 delegates, including leaders, lecturers, and researchers from six member universities, to discuss the theme “Urban Synergies: Bridging Knowledge, Cultures, and Sustainability.” At the conference, USSH reaffirmed its pioneering role by officially taking on the responsibility of hosting the 17th IACSC International Conference and Symposium in 2027 in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the plenary session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết, Vice President, delivered a keynote speech underscoring the university’s strong commitment to advancing academic initiatives on sustainable urban development. He emphasized that hosting the 17th IACSC in 2027 will not only be an international event of great significance but also a testament to the responsibility of a leading institution in the social sciences and humanities. He added that this will be an opportunity for Vietnam to become a hub where global scholars convene, exchange knowledge, culture, and action for sustainable development.

Alongside the conference, IACSC 2025 also served as a platform for scientists to present and discuss new research on urban issues, environment, and health. Representing USSH VNUHCM, Dr. Lê Thanh Hòa, Dean of Urban Studies, presented a paper on applying urban morphology in analyzing population density in Ho Chi Minh City, with a focus on the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to adapt to climate change. His presentation received high praise for addressing local realities while also offering globally relevant insights, showcasing the university’s research strength in proposing innovative and sustainable urban solutions.

In addition, parallel sessions on urban studies, environment, and health saw active participation from numerous scholars and graduate researchers, including Vietnamese representatives. Their contributions not only enriched the international academic forum but were also included in the official conference proceedings. This highlighted Vietnam’s growing presence in global sustainable development efforts, with USSH VNUHCM serving as a vital bridge for research and academic cooperation in the region.

The success of IACSC 2025 in Indonesia not only fostered dialogue and international collaboration but also laid the foundation for USSH VNUHCM’s next chapter as the host of IACSC 2027 in Ho Chi Minh City. The upcoming event will provide the university with an opportunity to further its pioneering role, spread knowledge and social responsibility, and reinforce its position as a leading academic hub that connects Vietnam with the global scholarly community in building human-centered, innovative, and sustainable cities for the future.
