2nd Quarter 2025 Review Conference: Innovating Through Listening and Connection

On July 10, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH, VNU-HCM) held its Quarter II/2025 Review Conference “Shaping the Future: Guidance and Connection with a New Face” at Thủ Đức Campus. More than a routine meeting, this conference served as a space for listening and connection.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan, Rector of the University, emphasized that USSH is undergoing a strong transformation - from restructuring its governance model and operations to renewing its human resources and training strategies. She affirmed that proactivity, creativity, and the ability to connect will be the keys on the path toward full international integration.

Reporting on the quarter’s results, Dr. Phạm Thanh Duy, Head of the Administration-General Office, presented the key achievements of the 2nd Quarter, especially concrete steps in restructuring and improving training and research quality. He also outlined major orientations for the 3rd Quarter, aiming to accelerate key projects and prepare for a new academic year full of promising changes. On this occasion, Dr. Phạm Thanh Duy introduced the song “Tự hào Nhân văn bay cao ước mơ” composed by Đoàn Bình Lâm, marking the start of activities leading up to the University’s 70th anniversary.

Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan also set out strategic directions on multiple fronts. Notable among them were the restructuring of the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities Research, development of the Korea Studies Center and the Informatics Center toward an integrated model of research-training-community service, and plans to reorganize units in 2025 with a streamlined yet high-quality and efficient structure. The University is also implementing a program to attract and develop outstanding young scholars, while advancing a Visiting Professorship Program to expand its international academic network.
In training, the University continues to restructure academic disciplines, strengthen academic advising, and pilot new doctoral training regulations - an important step to raise postgraduate quality and enhance integration in academic programs.
A defining feature of this conference was its interactive approach, moving beyond routine reporting. The “Letters of Expectation” activity allowed leaders to highlight future visions and major challenges, creating an open, two-way listening space to better capture internal concerns. The “Multi-Dimensional Lens” group discussion was another highlight, fostering strong interaction among unit leaders and encouraging diverse perspectives to address the University’s practical challenges. This spirit of openness and sharing deepened the University’s core values and strengthened internal cohesion.

As part of the program, participants also visited three exemplary research and practice spaces at the campus: the Multimedia Communication Laboratory of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, the Center for Psychological Research and Application of the Faculty of Psychology, and the Applied Technology Tourism Research Room of the Faculty of Tourism. These serve as vivid examples of the University’s core strategy: interdisciplinary training linked closely with practice, to produce high-quality and grounded human resources.
