AUN Summer Program 2025: A Bridge for Cultural and Academic Exchange among ASEAN Students

On July 11, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH, VNU-HCM) welcomed students from universities in the ASEAN University Network (AUN) to the AUN Summer Program 2025. This two-week initiative aims to foster academic exchange among the ten ASEAN countries.

The program was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết, Vice Rector of USSH; Ms. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Khánh, Deputy Head of the Student Affairs Office; Ms. Hoàng Thị Hiền Thương, Deputy Head of the Office of Communications and Events Management; Dr. Hoàng Thị Trang, Deputy Head of the Office of International Relations and Scientific Research Management; Mr. Vũ Nguyên Anh, Deputy Director of the Center for Information, Library, and Museum; Mr. Lại Duy Long, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union; Ms. Nguyễn Cẩm Tú, Member of the Standing Committee and Chair of the Student Union; along with many students from AUN universities.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết, Vice Rector of USSH, emphasized that AUN Summer Camp 2025, themed Youth’s Sustainable and Innovative Solutions to Climate Change, addresses one of the most urgent global challenges. He expressed confidence that through the ASEAN youth network and diverse academic and cultural exchange activities, students could discuss regional issues and propose innovative solutions while spreading positive values.

During the program, students were walked through displays at the University’s Traditional Room and Museum, which underscored the history and development of USSH, along with its achievements in education, research, and community engagement. This has helped international students gain a deeper understanding of not only USSH’s educational environment but also its efforts in cultural preservation.

Following this activity were six cultural performances by students from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, representing traditional values and cultural diversity of countries in the Asia-Pacific region with a view to fostering solidarity and connections among ASEAN students.

Continuing the program, international students had the opportunity to explore Vietnamese folk art through a workshop on “tò he” (a form of handmade Vietnamese traditional toy figurine) led by Mr. Phan Cao Nguyên, lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism. Under the guidance of artisans Phạm Tiến Hiền and Phạm Thị Trình, students were able to experience crafting “tò he”, a way of spreading Vietnamese culture.

The AUN Summer Program 2025 held by USSH, VNU-HCM provided international students with valuable academic and cultural experiences. Through its activities, the program helped promote solidarity, foster creativity and a sense of responsibility, while raising awareness of cultural preservation alongside sustainable development.
