Dong-A University (Korea) Confers Honorary Doctorate on Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan

On August 27, Korea's Dong-A University conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Tourism Management on Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan, President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH VNUHCM). The ceremony was held with full solemnity at Dong-A University.

The event was attended by Ms. Đoàn Phương Lan, Consul General of Vietnam in Busan; Mr. Shin Choong Il, former Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City; leaders of Dong-A University and its affiliated schools; members of the alumni association; a delegation from USSH VNUHCM; along with Dong-A faculty and students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dong-A University President Lee Hae-woo praised Prof. Ngô Thị Phương Lan’s contributions:

“Prof. Ngô Thị Phương Lan has demonstrated leadership and dedication to society in many areas, including academia, gender equality, and rural development. Her efforts in advancing education, empowering women scholars, promoting sustainable rural development, and fostering community-based tourism have been highly recognized. These achievements are not only personal milestones but also contribute to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Korea.”

Consul General Đoàn Phương Lan emphasized that the honorary doctorate awarded to Prof. Ngô Thị Phương Lan is more than recognition of an outstanding Vietnamese scholar, researcher, and educator. The event transcends the framework of bilateral university cooperation, fostering academic exchange, practical development ties, and educational collaboration between the two countries. It also contributes to the substantive growth of the Vietnam–Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan expressed deep honor and pride in receiving Dong-A University’s honorary doctorate.

“These accomplishments are not solely my own, but the result of collective efforts by the USSH community, VNU-HCM, and the Saemaul Undong Center for Rural Development. I firmly believe this recognition will serve as a solid foundation for building and nurturing cooperative ties between our two universities, further strengthening the Vietnam–Korea friendship that has flourished for over 30 years.”

She affirmed her commitment to continuing her efforts, contributing to the advancement of tourism while preserving and promoting cultural and community values.

Earlier, on June 20, USSH VNUHCM signed a cooperation agreement with Dong-A University. Located in Busan, Dong-A is the leading private university outside Korea’s capital region and one of 23 universities in the country with an affiliated hospital. It is distinguished for programs in Law, Psychology, Business Administration, and Architecture, and has a strong alumni network of over 1,000 graduates holding leadership positions in major corporations and government agencies. Around 1,300 Vietnamese students are currently studying at Dong-A. In 2023, the Korean government selected Dong-A as a “Glocal University,” providing KRW 100 billion in support over five years to promote international cooperation and interdisciplinary education.
