On October 31, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH VNUHCM) organized the 2025 Student Scientific Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities (SCSSH 2025). The conference aimed to promote academic exchange, showcase student research outcomes, and encourage creativity in the fields of social sciences and humanities.
The event was jointly held by the Office of External Relations and Research Affairs, the University Youth Union, and relevant academic units. It attracted a large number of lecturers, researchers, students, and postgraduate learners.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Phan Thanh Định, Vice President; Dr. Hoàng Ngọc Minh Châu, Deputy Head of the Office of External Relations and Research Affairs; M.A. Nguyễn Thị Bích Hà, Deputy Head of the Office of Academic Affairs; Mr. Nguyễn Huỳnh Minh Phúc, Secretary of the University Youth Union; along with leaders of faculties and academic departments.
In his keynote remarks, Dr. Phan Thanh Định emphasized that scientific research is the core mission of a university and a driving force for national development in the knowledge-based era. He highlighted the role of student research in fostering critical thinking, creativity, and social responsibility, noting that lecturers act as mentors who nurture scientific curiosity, while students are active contributors to the intellectual community.

“Student research is not merely an academic requirement but an opportunity for young people to affirm their capabilities and contribute to society. Every well-conducted study, regardless of scale, adds value to the nation’s intellectual foundation,” Dr. Phan Thanh Định stated.
At the plenary session, Dr. Đào Lê Na from the Faculty of Literature and Linguistics presented the paper “Algorithmic Adaptation: Identity, Creative Agency, and the Future of Adaptation in the Era of Generative AI.” The presentation explored the transformative impact of generative artificial intelligence on creativity and cultural production, raising critical questions about authorship, identity, and creative autonomy in contemporary society.

Another plenary presentation, “Students’ Motivation for Scientific Research and Its Impact on Academic Performance,” delivered by Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tường from the Faculty of Education, examined key factors influencing student engagement in research activities. The study underlined the importance of institutional support in cultivating research motivation and enhancing students’ academic effectiveness and personal development.

Within the conference framework, 128 student research projects were presented across three main sessions, each comprising multiple sub-panels representing specialized disciplines. The papers addressed a wide range of contemporary topics, including the social impacts of digital transformation, mental health, education and human development, and the application of modern theoretical frameworks to reinterpret classical thought and Vietnamese social issues. Many studies combined theoretical analysis with empirical research conducted in local contexts.

The SCSSH 2025 provided a dynamic academic platform for student researchers, strengthening the integration of teaching and research at USSH. Through scholarly exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue, the conference contributed to the development of students’ research capacity, critical thinking skills, and global academic outlook.
