On the afternoon of April 2, 2026, at room C105, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City held the master's thesis defense for graduate student Mai Thanh Tuyen with the topic "Children's education in Japanese families during the aging population period (from the 1980s to present)", under the scientific supervision of Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Hao.
The thesis evaluation committee included: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thu – Committee Chair; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Luc – Reviewer 1; Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai Huong – Reviewer 2; Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Trang – Committee Secretary; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan – Member.
The thesis consists of 133 pages, excluding the reference section, and is developed in three main chapters: Chapter 1: Theoretical and practical basis; Chapter 2: The reality of children's education in Japanese families during the aging population period (from the 1980s to present); Chapter 3: Achievements and challenges of children's education in Japanese families during the aging population period and lessons for Vietnam.
The research aims to clarify the Japanese social context during the aging population period from the 1980s to the present. In addition, the thesis analyzes changes in children's education within the family under the influence of economic, cultural, and social factors. Thereby, it highlights the role of the family in shaping children's personality, social skills, and value orientation. The thesis applies theories such as Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory and Urie Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory to analyze the relationship between the family environment and child development. The use of source materials in various languages also contributes to enhancing the objectivity and reliability of the research.
At the defense, the committee members assessed that the thesis has scientific significance and serves as a valuable reference for research on children's education in Japanese families during the aging population period. The thesis is recognized for its elaborate research effort, the use of a rich system of references in Vietnamese, English, and Japanese, as well as demonstrating a relatively good ability to synthesize and process data. The thesis layout is logically structured, contributing to clarifying several basic contents regarding factors, content, and methods of children's education in Japanese families.
After the presentation and answering the committee's questions, the Head of the Vote Counting Committee announced the result: the thesis achieved a score of 8.4. Concluding the defense, the Committee Chair emphasized that after the student revises and completes the thesis according to the professional feedback and the committee's resolution, this work can be used as a reference for teaching, learning, and research in the field of education.
