Within the framework of the practical training program in Da Lat from March 25th to 27th, 2026, more than 140 students and lecturers from the Faculty of Psychology (Clinical specialisation) had the opportunity to directly access community support and mental health care models at the Lam Dong Provincial Social Protection Center – Da Lat and the SOS Children's Village Da Lat.
Empathy and connection at the Lam Dong Social Protection Centre (Da Lat): Students observed firsthand the work of receiving, managing, and caring for specific groups (elderly people living alone, people with disabilities, and people with special circumstances). Students discussed common psychological issues in residential environments, how to establish supportive relationships, and the importance of maintaining mental health for vulnerable individuals. Short conversations with subjects here helped future psychologists understand that the theory of compassion is only truly valuable when accompanied by deep listening skills and genuine presence.
A stop at the SOS Children's Village in Da Lat, with its alternative family model, provided insightful perspectives on developmental psychology. Students learned about the "alternative family" model—where children's psychological traumas are healed through lasting bonds with mothers and aunts. The internship program at the SOS Children's Village clarified concepts of attachment psychology and early psychological interventions in shaping children's personalities.
The internship program was not just coursework but also a reminder of the ethics and responsibilities of clinical psychologists. These experiences are the living "material" that will prepare the students for real-world clinical cases in the future.
