IR EXPERIENCE DAY 2026 | A look back at the field trip and practical learning session at the Department of External Relations of Ho Chi Minh City

On the afternoon of August 14, 2026, within the framework of the “IR Experience Day 2026” program, students from the Faculty of History and International Relations had the opportunity to visit and engage in practical learning at the Department of External Relations of Ho Chi Minh City (hereinafter referred to as the Department).
The program was honored to welcome Mr. Tran Minh Sang - Party Committee Member, Director of the Organization and Personnel Division, and Mr. Van Trong Nhan - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the Department of External Relations. Representing the Faculty of History and International Relations, the program was accompanied by Dr. Nguyen Vu Ky - Deputy Director of the Faculty, along with the participation of 40 students from the International Relations, History, and International Studies majors.
Opening the program, Mr. Tran Minh Sang provided an overview of the formation, organizational structure, functions, and tasks of the Department in foreign affairs within Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region. Additionally, he shared specific information regarding the procedures and requirements for applying for internships at the Department, helping students better prepare for their upcoming internships. In particular, the presentation on the general conditions for applying to become a civil servant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs helped students broaden their perspective on recruitment requirements and provided a basis for proactively preparing the necessary knowledge and skills for their career orientation in the field of foreign affairs.
Continuing the program, Dr. Nguyen Vu Ky - Deputy Director of the Faculty of History and International Relations introduced the Faculty's training program and shared the orientation of connecting academic studies with students' practical experiences. He emphasized his desire for students to actively seek out and prioritize learning, internship, and work opportunities related to their majors, especially in the field of diplomacy.
On this occasion, the Faculty representative also expressed gratitude to the Board of Directors of the Department of External Relations, Mr. Tran Minh Sang, Mr. Van Trong Nhan, and the staff of the Department for supporting the Faculty in internship activities and coordinating the organization of the visit and exchange program for students. The meeting also marked the bond between the two units through the exchange of souvenir gifts between the Faculty and the Department of External Relations.
Within the framework of the program, the Department's officials and the Faculty's students had the opportunity to watch a film commemorating the 50th anniversary of the formation and development of the Department of External Relations of Ho Chi Minh City and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese Diplomatic service. The screened images not only recreated the journey of the formation and development of the diplomatic sector but also evoked memories, stories, and the dedication of generations of officials who have devoted themselves to foreign affairs. Following that, students watched a documentary summarizing the key activities of the Department in the first 6 months of 2026, thereby gaining a visual perspective on foreign affairs activities in practice.
Closing the program, Mr. Van Trong Nhan - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the Department of External Relations, who is also an alumnus of the Faculty, helped students learn about the Directors of the Department through different periods and guided students on a tour of the reception room and the Department's premises. This activity enabled students to directly observe the work space and learn more about the working environment at the Department of External Relations.
The Faculty of History and International Relations would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Department of External Relations of Ho Chi Minh City for their thoughtful welcome, as well as for the practical and valuable sharing provided to our students. The visit not only helped them understand more deeply about foreign affairs work but also opened up opportunities to connect with the professional environment, thereby providing further orientation for their future learning, training, and development.

The “IR Experience Day 2026” Career Orientation Program for students of the Faculty of History and International Relations is managed and executed by the International Relations major and the Faculty's Student Association. The program aims to provide students with practical information about job opportunities and real-world working environments through experiential field trips at agencies and businesses.
