Spanning over two months from June 1 to August 16, 2026, the 2026 Green Summer Campaign by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City attracted 1,040 registered volunteers and 19,835 youth union members and youths. This year’s campaign implements 40 projects across HCMC and various localities in Vietnam.
The campaign was deployed across wards, communes, and special zones in HCMC, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and Vinh Long Provinces. Volunteer teams simultaneously operated in the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Con Dao special zone, HCMC.
The youth supports practical needs
Supporting digital transformation, administrative reform, and popularizing digital skills was a key focus of this year's Green Summer campaign. Volunteer teams assisted archiving, digitizing records, and organizing processes; guiding local residents in using online public services, e-accounts, cashless payments, and various digital platforms. The campaign successfully persuaded 1,200 youths and residents to install and use the "Digital Citizen of HCMC" application.
Additionally, volunteers organized four technology and digital transformation training sessions for local officials and civil servants; supporting the transfer of two research initiatives and projects worth 192 million VND. Three digital transformation projects, including the "Cu Chi Digital Citizen" application portal, the Cu Chi commune digital tourism map, and the digitization of historical relics and scenic spots in Tan Lap commune, Tay Ninh province, were handed over to localities, totaling 45 million VND.
Regarding environmental and urban construction, the campaign ensured 10 roads and alleys adhere to the "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful - Civilized - Safe" criteria; installing 50 public trash cans, clearing grass on 3km of roads, and constructing 3 road sections with warning signs. In Vinh Long Province, teams renovated, upgraded, and concreted at least 800m of roads while planting 330 trees in HCMC and Lam Dong Province.
130 solar street lights were installed across multiple areas. Nine “National Flag Road” projects were also carried out in HCMC and other provinces.
Childcare activities featured 73 summer sessions focusing on fostering soft skills, foreign languages, science-technology, and digital transformation. Volunteer teams helped upgrade communal children' s playgrounds, installed 7 bookshelves, and established a "4.0 Reading Culture Space".

According to Le Thi Trang Dai, Green Summer Campaign Commander, the novelty of this year's campaign lies in its scale and execution, which all aligned closely with the practical needs of each locality. Besides traditional volunteer work, the campaign also prioritized long-term projects, particularly in digital transformation, administrative reform, civilized urban development, environmental protection, and social security.
“Personally, I think the most memorable part is that volunteers’ efforts were highly attuned to the specific needs of each locality, meaning that our actions could have a lasting positive impact even after the campaign ends,” she said.
Lasting values after the campaign
Social security efforts were demonstrated through supporting 724 disadvantaged residents (724 million VND) and 357 youths (438 million VND), bringing totals to 1,162 billion VND.

In Lam Dong Province, the campaign funded the construction of one new house and the repair of two houses, totaling 200 million VND. Teams also provided startup training for 350 youths; career counseling and job placement for 300 individuals; and foreign language and international integration capacity-building activities for 900 teenagers and children.

Alongside social security, the campaign organized 18 "Back to the Roots" journeys to educate members on history, revolutionary traditions and customs. Volunteer activities in border areas, islands, and internationally (including Laos and the Con Dao special zone) provided participants with practical experiences and community engagement opportunities.

The entire campaign recorded 40 youth projects focusing on digital transformation, the environment, new rural development, civilized urban areas, culture-tourism, childcare, social security, and traditional education. Total implementation funding reached 2.802 billion VND.
Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, President of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, highly praised the students' proactive and voluntary spirit in community-oriented activities. She acknowledged their practical contributions through various projects, which help spread the image of dynamic, responsible, and dedicated students, while providing an environment for students to train, mature, and unlock their potential.
The projects and tasks were tailored to the actual needs of each locality, thereby creating lasting values even after the campaign. At the same time, the field experience helps union members and youths hone their skills, adaptability, and strengthen their sense of responsibility toward the community.
Under the motto "learning from the people, working for the people," Green Summer 2026 not only executed concrete projects but also offered practical experiences for students, fostering a deep sense of responsibility toward the community.
