The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City officially announced 3 bachelor's degree programs in Vietnamese Studies 2+2
The 3 Vietnamese Studies 2+2 bachelor's programs are joint programs between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Busan University of Foreign Studies, Chungwoon University, and Youngsan University, South Korea.
According to the Board of Presidents of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, there are currently 4 training institutions for Vietnamese language and Vietnamese Studies in South Korea, including the Department of Southeast Asian Studies (Busan University of Foreign Studies), Department of Vietnamese Studies (Chungwoon University), Department of Vietnamese Language (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), and Department of Vietnamese Studies (Youngsan University).
In these departments, most courses related to Vietnam are taught by South Korean instructors in the Korean language. Students majoring in Vietnamese Studies lack opportunities to communicate with Vietnamese people or experience Vietnamese culture. Therefore, their Vietnamese communication skills as well as their understanding of Vietnam remain limited.
Given this reality, the 2+2 joint training program with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City is seen by both sides as a necessary demand for South Korean universities so that students have the opportunity to study and experience Vietnamese culture in Ho Chi Minh City.
Students enrolled in this program will be awarded a dual degree (one bachelor's degree issued by the training institution in South Korea and one by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City). This is an opportunity for them to find good jobs in both South Korea and Vietnam after graduation.
To enroll in this program, students must be admitted by the President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City based on their application, which is selected by Youngsan University according to standards agreed upon by the two universities.
Students must have Vietnamese language proficiency equivalent to level B1 according to the 6-level Vietnamese Language Competency Framework of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Regarding the duration of the program, students study for 2 years at a South Korean university (Youngsan/Busan/Chungwoon) and 2 years at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
The curriculum is co-designed by both sides based on a credit system and divided into 2 stages.
Stage 1: 2 years (4 semesters) studying at the university in South Korea, consisting of 65 credits according to the South Korean university's credit system (equivalent to 65 credits in the credit system of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City). Stage 2: 2 years (4 semesters) studying at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, consisting of 65 credits according to the credit system of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
The training scale of the program is 20 - 40 students/year. After graduation, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Vietnamese Studies issued by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City and the partner university in South Korea.
The program will be implemented from 2021 and managed by the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies.
