Closing Ceremony of 248th AUN-QA Assessment at Programme Level
On Dec. 3, the ASEAN University Network (AUN) together with Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) organized the Closing Ceremony of 248th AUN Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Assessment at programme level. This assessment marked the 20th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at VNUHCM and their 3rd remote site visit in Vietnam.
From Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, the assessors from AUN have finished their preliminary assessment of 4 VNU’s academic programs: Bachelor of Automotive Engineering and Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering of University of Technology, and Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Linguistics and Literature and Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies of University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH).
According to Dr. Nguyễn Duy Mộng Hà, Head of the Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance at USSH, during the closing ceremony, the AUN-QA assessors have presented the preliminary results, strengths, as well as areas for improvement of the aforementioned programs. Official assessment results will be announced in a month.
USSH currently has 5 AUN-QA accredited programs, with 1 postgraduate program and 4 undergraduate programs, including Master of Arts in Vietnamese Studies, Bachelor of Arts in English Language & Linguistics, Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, and Bachelor of Arts in History.

Regarding plans for AUN-QA quality assessments at programme level, Dr. Mộng Hà shared that there will be 2 undergraduate programs assessed in Aug. 2022: Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor of Arts in Tourism & Travel Management. Plans beyond that are yet to be scheduled. Each year, VNU-HCM Quality Assurance Council will select only 1 to 2 programs from each member university of VNU, while the AUN only conducts 2 assessments at VNUHCM for 4 training programs each. To be selected, all of the offered training programs have to pass the external assessment.
The university is planning to apply for Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) system assessment at programme level in the near future, she added. FIBAA is an educational accreditation body founded in 2002 to accredit schools of business. FIBAA is approved by the Accreditation Council and is recognized in all German-speaking countries, namely Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
Apart from quality assessment at programme level, USSH has prepared for the assessment at the institutional level under AUN-QA standards, which requires on-site visits. However, the AUN Institutional Assessment has been indefinitely postponed since May 2020 due to the escalating COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Mộng Hà further said that USSH is planning to apply for educational quality assurance accreditation at institutional level under the Ministry of Education and Traning’s framework in 2022.
