After having been approved by the president of Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City on December 7, 2021, the strategic plan for the 2021-2025 period of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH, VNU-HCM) was officially implemented on December 20, 2021.
In the context of educational innovation as well as the USSH’s autonomy from 2022, it is strategically significant for the USSH to make an innovation-oriented operation plan aligned with the university autonomy pathway. Therefore, the USSH has proposed a strategic plan during the period from 2021 to 2025 with the aim of achieving university autonomy with a modern management system, having the quality of international standards in education and research, as well as optimally utilizing the USSH’s current resources.
The strategic plan identified the USSH's vision (“Building the USSH as a research university within the VNU-HCM system and one of the top universities in the field of social sciences and humanities in Asia”); its mission (“Training high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research in the fields of social sciences and humanities; contributing to the socio-economic development strategy of Vietnam and localities, especially the Southern region”); its core values (“Creativity - Leadership - Responsibility”); and its educational philosophy (“Whole Person - Liberal and Multicultural Education”).
The plan includes 6 main strategies related to university governance; human resources; facilities and finance; training and quality assurance; science and technology development and community service; student affairs and university culture.
In particular, the strategy of university governance consists of 4 objectives and 16 solutions for the purpose of helping the USSH achieve university autonomy with a modern management system and international integration.
The strategy of human resources includes 3 objectives and 10 solutions. It aims to develop a capable workforce to meet the quantity and quality requirements in line with the USSH's autonomy mechanism on the path towards an interdisciplinary research university.
With 2 objectives and 6 solutions, the strategy of facilities and finance is executed to modernize the infrastructure following the model of advanced universities in the region.
Consisting of 6 objectives and 21 solutions, the strategy of training and quality assurance aims not only to promote an interdisciplinary training program orientated to modernization and international integration but also to build a training program orientated to digital transformation. Furthermore, it contributes to increasing accreditation activities according to domestic and international accreditation standards.
The strategy of science and technology development and community service includes 5 objectives and 30 solutions for the purpose of building the USSH as both a leading research center in the field of social sciences and humanities in Vietnam and one of the prestigious research centers in Asia. Besides, it helps improve the quality of science and technology research as well as research publication capacity.
With 5 objectives and 16 solutions, the strategy of student affairs and university culture aims to share values, promote a humane lifestyle in the USSH and the social community, create a learning and living environment for students according to international standards, and position the USSH students’ brand.
