Building a strategic cooperation program in partnership with Deakin University, Australia
On November 8, 2021, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University-HCM (USSH, VNU-HCM) and Deakin University (Australia) held an online meeting with the aim of evaluating and proposing cooperative strategies between the two universities.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Le Hoang Dung - Vice President of USSH, Mr. John Molony - Vice President of Deakin University, along with other staff from both sides.
At the meeting, Mr. John Molony mentioned that Australia in general and its state, Victoria, in particular started to reopen its borders to welcome international students back after an 18-month pandemic shutdown. In particular, fully-jabbed students can return to Australia to intern or conduct graduation theses by the end of 2021 under the pilot plan of the Government. In addition, he shared the student support policies of Deakin University in response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including a AUD 25 million support fund for international students stranded in Australia, Vietnam Partners Scholarship, unchanging tuition fees in 2022, etc. When it comes to the cooperative strategies, Mr. John Molony affirmed that Vietnam had always been the leading partner of Deakin University. Also, he stressed the role of USSH, VNU-HCM as a strategic partner and the hope of deepening the relationship and cooperation between the two universities.
Mr. John Molony congratulated the staff and lecturers of the USSH, VNU-HCM on the occasion of Vietnam Teacher's Day.
In response to Mr. John Molony, Dr. Le Hoang Dung emphasized the significance of the cooperation, as well as proposing ideas to prepare for Project 89 of the Ministry of Education and Training. He added: “University of Social Sciences and Humanities is interested in internationalization of higher education, thereby offering many solutions for the purpose of providing learners with high-quality training programs and helping them work at an international level”. Therefore, he hoped that both universities would have cooperation and share of professional experience and research in the near future to enhance the quality of training.

Furthermore, the two sides also discussed and proposed next directions for their cooperation, including master's programs in International Relations, cooperation programs in research and doctoral education, etc.
When it comes to Deakin University, it was established in 1974. Despite being a young university, it is one of the leading universities in Australia and has achieved many academic awards, as well as being highly appreciated by various independent research organizations, namely the top 1% of universities worldwide (Shanghai Rankings, 2019), 1st in Victoria for employability among graduates from an undergraduate degree (Graduate Outcomes Survey, 2019), etc. Besides, Communication and International Relations are two of its popular majors, attracting a large number of international students. Currently, this university and the USSH, VNU-HCM have organized the 2+2 joint training program in Bachelor of the two aforementioned majors to equip students with in-depth specialized knowledge along with practical working skills.
