On December 10, the 6th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies - 2022 themed "Vietnam in the contemporary world: transformation and adaptation," organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (in a hybrid format), attracted the participation of numerous domestic and international scholars.
The 6th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies - 2022 "Vietnam in the contemporary world: transformation and adaptation" took place on December 10.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Le Hoang Dung - Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that the conference took place in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has been profoundly impacting many fields and posing immense challenges to the development of nations, including Vietnam. The conference was organized to create a high-quality scientific forum for Vietnamese studies both domestically and regionally, and to establish a network of international Vietnam scholars to discuss contemporary issues in today's Vietnamese society.
Dr. Tran Thi Mai Nhan - Acting Dean of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City) stated that the conference organizing committee had received nearly 100 papers from domestic and international scholars, experts, and scientists; including those from universities and institutes in the United States, Japan, Russia, France, and more.
The articles focused on culture, language, literature - arts, history - society, and more. Not only addressing issues related to cultural exchange and integration or new approaches in studying traditional culture, but the articles also discussed shifts in mindset, policy, economy, education, and ecology of Vietnam in the current context.
In particular, the topic of modern rural areas attracted the interest of many researchers. Typical examples included studies on the cultural environment in building new rural areas, rural tourism as a post-Covid-19 travel trend, and changes in the livelihood culture of residents in the ancient village of Duong Lam under the impact of tourism. Many articles demonstrated in-depth research with novel interpretations.

At the conference, scholars, experts, and scientists continued to delve into clarifying Vietnamese values and proposing solutions to promote these values as internal strength for Vietnam's sustainable socio-economic development.
"We hope that the conference will provide further inspiration for scientists to conduct deeper research, discover more new issues, and contribute to overall development," shared Dr. Tran Thi Mai Nhan.
Sharing the same view, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tho - Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City) commented: "The world is moving and will continue to move ceaselessly. Scientists as well as managers need to be proactive and well-prepared to help social culture remain more stable in a constantly moving world."
