Introduction to the formation and development of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City

Having gone through a challenging and arduous high school graduation exam, our 2k5 students must be "taking a break" after a period of intense study and reflection, right? While enjoying your time off, many of you are likely still thinking and searching for information on suitable majors to register for in the upcoming 4-year journey.
Understanding that, the Youth Union - Student Association of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies would like to provide you with basic information about the formation and development of the Faculty. We hope our information will help you have plenty of data to make a great choice for your major!
The Faculty of Vietnamese Studies was formerly the Vietnamese for Foreigners Section under the Faculty of Literature, established in 1980 and headed by Mr. Tran Chut. Later, the Vietnamese section was separated into the Department of Vietnamese Language and Culture, under the Center for Vietnam - Southeast Asia Studies, University of Ho Chi Minh City, established on March 14, 1990.
In 1998, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies was officially established according to Decision No. 439/QD/VNU/TCCB dated December 26, 1998, by the Chancellor of VNUHCM. This is an important milestone in the development of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies.
In the 2000 - 2001 academic year, the Faculty trained the first batch of bachelor's degree students in Vietnamese Studies for foreigners, consisting of 13 students. Since then, the Faculty has organized training for dozens of cohorts of foreign students learning Vietnamese. In addition, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies continuously expands its cooperation with many domestic and foreign entities, such as the U.S. Consulate, international students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, etc. With the achievements attained, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies has received many honorable awards from the Ministry of Education and Training, VNUHCM, the Vietnam National Union of Education, etc. Especially, the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for achievements in successfully completing the accreditation of the Vietnamese Studies training program according to AUN-QA standards.
With a history of formation and development spanning nearly 25 years, as well as the guidance of our teachers in the Party Cell - Faculty Board, students will have a truly valuable experience during their learning and training process at the university lecture hall.
