NOTICE OF THE DEAN OF FACULTY OF HISTORY: About some recommendations and solutions to limit the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on teaching and learning plans

Dear: Students, Graduate Students, Ph.D. Candidates at the Faculty of History

Recently, the epidemic of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (known as Covid-19) in our country and around the world has become increasingly severe and complex. One of the measures to prevent the spread of the disease in Ho Chi Minh City and the rest of the country is to extend the Lunar New Year holidays 2020 for students. For the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), so far we have informed students to leave university until the end of March 2020.

The decision for students to stay at home in the past time is essential to avoid the spread of the outbreak in the process of learning — teaching, especially in the context of an increasingly unpredictable, complex epidemic. Despite this, the leave of students has caused certain difficulties, greatly affected the training plan, study progress of students The university and faculty understand and share the difficulties and worries of students

In the future, to limit the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on the teaching and learning plan, the Faculty of History will implement several immediate solutions:

1. Review and revise the study plan for the second semester of 2019-2020 to accelerate the progress of each subjects, in particular:

a. 1st-year students: end the semester before 31/7/2020;

b. 2nd, 3rd, 4th-year students: End of the semester before 7/7/2020;

c. Graduate students and Ph.D. candidates: end of the semester before 30/8/2020;

d. Prioritize to accelerate study progress for 4th-year students; graduate students and Ph.D. candidates who have to prepare to defend their theses/dissertations.

2. The faculty will publish on the website details of the syllabi for the semester, contact information of the lecturer in charge of the subject, so that students can actively self-prepare for class, and contact faculty before the course begins.

3. From the beginning of April 2020, depending on the situation of the epidemic, certain subjects will be eligible for online instruction (according to the needs of students and the conditions of the faculty), the Faculty will coordinate with the school to organize online lessons (more details to be announced later).

During the period of leaving school, the Faculty has several recommendations as follows:

1. All students -- trainees should comply with and implement fully, accurately and responsibly, concerning the recommendations of health authorities regarding prevention, handling and treatment measures related to the Covid-19 epidemic; in particular, do not inform or share information that has not been verified regarding the Covid-19 epidemic;

2. Students — trainees need to actively self-study during the break time (reading documents, studying a foreign language,...); limit unnecessary activities to protect the health of themselves and the community;

3. Students — trainees/ Board of staff/Youth Union Organization — Student Union/ Dean teachers should actively exchange information to timely capture the situation; in case of need or need of support, suggestion..., please contact the Dean immediately.

The Faculty of History wishes to receive the companionship and coordination of students and trainees in the coming time to limit the impact of the increasingly complex Covid-19 epidemic.

Wish you and your family health and peace!

Sincerely./.
