The Center for Marine and Climate Change Research Officially Merged into the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities

Pursuant to Decision No. 432/QĐ-XHNV-TCCB dated March 31, 2025, issued by the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), the Research Center for Marine and Climate Change, along with five other research centers, has been officially consolidated into the newly established Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities, a research entity under the University.
The Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities was founded through the merger of the following centers: the Center for Mental Health Research and Support; the Center for Thai Studies; the Center for Religious and Ethical Studies; the Center for Population and Development Studies; the Research Center for Marine and Climate Change; and the Center for Sustainable Tourism Development Research. The Institute is envisioned to serve as a core unit for organizing and implementing interdisciplinary research activities in the field of social sciences and humanities, with a strategic mission to promote academic knowledge that addresses sustainable development issues of both national and regional significance.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân, currently Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, has been appointed as the Director of the newly established Institute.
Within the Institute's organizational structure, Dr. Phạm Thị Bích Ngọc continues to lead the Research Center for Marine and Climate Change, now a specialized unit under the Institute. The Center will maintain its focus on high-impact research and policy consultation in the areas of maritime studies, environmental issues, and climate change—critical themes with far-reaching implications for contemporary socio-economic development.
