Announcement of HYI-NUS Joint Doctoral Scholarship Program for the academic year 2026-2027

Dear Falculties,
The School would like to inform the units about the HYI-NUS Joint Doctoral Scholarship Program for the academic year 2026-2027, as follows:
1. General information
The joint doctoral scholarship program between Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) is designed to support young, potential lecturers from HYI's partner universities in Southeast Asia to pursue doctoral programs at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), NUS. The program aims to train scholars with in-depth research on East Asia or Southeast Asia.

2. Time and location
- In Singapore (NUS): 03 years (full-time study and receive scholarship from NUS);
- In the United States (Harvard University): 01 year (receive scholarship from HYI);
- During the time in the United States, candidates can study one semester (04 subjects) at Harvard and have their credits recognized at NUS.
3. Scholarship content
- Full scholarship (tuition, living expenses and academic support at both NUS and Harvard University);
- Study period in Singapore sponsored by NUS (maximum 03 years);
- Study period in the United States sponsored by HYI (usually 01 year);
- Candidates can apply for other scholarships, HYI only sponsors if studying for a PhD at NUS.

4. Subjects and majors
- Being a lecturer working at the School;
- Research in the field of social sciences and humanities, especially with comparative elements and related to Asian countries;
- Suitable majors: Anthropology, Archaeology, History (including economics and law), Linguistics, Literature, Art, Communication, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Sociology, Women and Gender Studies, Political Science, Regional and International Studies;
- Majors that need to be confirmed before submitting the application: Economics, Education, Psychology, Law, Geography, Public Administration.

5. Number
The school nominates a maximum of 02 candidates.
6. Application conditions
- Be a lecturer of the school and ensure to return to teaching after completing the program;
- Have a research topic, clear academic orientation and suitable for the program;
- Be officially nominated by the school, no personal application will be accepted without nomination.

7. Application Documents
- Application For Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI)-NUS Joint Scholarship Programme;
- Institutional Approval form with confirmation from the Dean;
- Fill out the online application for the PhD program at NUS and submit other documents as required by NUS at the link (including degrees, transcripts, English certificates, research proposal, etc.): https://fass.nus.edu.sg/prospective-students/graduate/research/application-information/ (note: applicants only fill out the application after being officially nominated by the University, applicants can refer to the required documents from NUS on the above website).

8. Application time and process
- Application deadline: 01/11/2025 (Saturday).
- Application process:
+ After being nominated by the University, the candidate submits an online application via the NUS system (https://fass.nus.edu.sg/prospective-students/graduate/research/application-information/) and uploads the required documents, and fills in the online form: https://forms.office.com/r/DT4Du0KYNQ;
+ The University sends the official nomination list to HYI.

The nomination letter and application documents (including soft and hard copies) must be submitted to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Scientific Management (Room B.005), email: era@hcmussh.edu.vn before 16:00 on September 17, 2025 (Wednesday).
