International Conference: Indian and Vietnamese Business Culture: Identity and Values

On October 3, at Van Khoa Hall, Sai Gon campus, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City held an International Conference: Indian and Vietnamese Business Culture: Identity and Values. The conference marks the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 25th anniversary of the Department of Indian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The conference was honored to have the participation of Mr. Vipra Pandey - Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Tushar Ga - Deputy Consulate General of India; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết – Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr. Nguyễn Thanh Tuấn – Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies; Dr. Lê Thị Sinh Hiền – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân – Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Research and Chairwoman of the Vietnam–Southeast Asia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, along with representatives from research organizations, businesses, media units, doctoral candidates, graduate students, and undergraduate students of the University.

Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lưu Văn Quyết affirmed that the conference was not only a meaningful academic event but also a vibrant symbol of the strong friendship, mutual trust, and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and India in the context of globalization and digital transformation.

The conference received 37 papers from scholars, experts, and researchers from various countries. The presentations were delivered in one plenary session and three panel sessions.

In the plenary session, the main reports included:

  • “The Symbiosis between Trade and Culture: Reassessing Ancient India–Vietnam Maritime Exchanges as a Pre-modern Model of Soft Power and Diplomatic Capital” by Dr. Anagha Babu;

  • “Vietnamese Corporate Business Culture in the Digital Transformation Era” by Mr. Chu Võ Kim Long;

  • “Leadership Traits among Indian and Vietnamese CEOs: A Comparative Analysis” by Mr. Nitish Gupta.

A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Research, featuring a paper by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân and Mr. Lê Vinh Thao titled “Indian Vegetarian Food Business Culture: A Model for Sustainable Development in Vietnam and ASEAN.” Their presentation expanded the academic discussion in an interdisciplinary direction, linking culture, economy, and environment. It deepened the vision of Vietnam–India cooperation in the ASEAN urban context and emphasized vegetarian cuisine as a form of people-to-people diplomacy and sustainable development.

Additionally, many other papers also held significant academic value, such as “Traditional Indian Business Culture through Fables” by Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Thu Hiền, and “Indian Wedding Tourism in Thailand from a Business Culture Perspective” by Dr. Nguyễn Thị Kim Châu, among others.

Through this conference, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities reaffirmed its leading role—not only as an academic center for cultural and international exchange studies but also as a bridge connecting scholars, businesses, and diplomatic organizations in promoting Vietnam–India cooperation, contributing to the spirit of friendship and sustainable development between the two nations.
