On November 5, 2025, the Department of International Relations, Faculty of History & International Relations - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City hosted a cordial meeting with Japanese representatives from the Japanese Studies & Global Dialogue Program, Japan Foundation.
Japanese representatives include:

Faculty of History & International Relations representatives include:
- Dr. Nguyen Tang Nghi – Dean
- Dr. Tran Nguyen Khang - Head of International Relations Department
- MSc. Truong Doan Man – Lecturer of the Faculty of History and International Relations
Main contents of the discussion:
- General introduction about the Japan Foundation and annual programs in Vietnam.
- Updating the expansion plan for the 2026 program: diversifying research topics, expanding target participants, and increasing opportunities for bilateral academic connection.
- Sharing expectations of building activities to support research, academic lectures, and thematic seminars to promote mutual understanding between the two countries.
- Recording shares and proposals from faculty and students of the Faculty regarding cooperation needs, research orientation, and desired forms of support.
Dr. Nguyen Tang Nghi, Dean of the Faculty, stated at the meeting: “We highly appreciate the role of the Japan Foundation in connecting scholars, students, and those interested in Japan. Developing a multi-dimensional academic space, where students can access Japan not only through books but through direct interaction, is what the Department of International Relations, Faculty of History & International Relations always prioritizes”. He also emphasized the desire to establish long-term thematic lecture programs, cooperation in research at the faculty or university level, and affirmed the Faculty's readiness to accompany the program's activities in the future.
Dr. Tran Nguyen Khang shared more about activities previously sponsored by the Japan Foundation and expressed his wish that the program will continue to expand, bringing more opportunities for both lecturers and students in research on Japan and East Asian international relations.
The meeting was not only an occasion to share information but also laid an important foundation for further cooperation programs between the Department of International Relations, Faculty of History & International Relations and the Japan Foundation, contributing to enhancing academic dialogue and mutual understanding in the era of regionalization and globalization.
