Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân – Chairwoman of VAFA and Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Research (ISSH) – conducted visits and working sessions with the ASEAN Consulates General in Ho Chi Minh City. The activity aimed to strengthen academic, cultural, and community cooperation and expand initiatives supporting students and learners in ASEAN-related fields.
Congratulations on Cambodia’s National Day
At the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân extended congratulations on Cambodia’s National Day (November 9) and discussed opportunities for cultural and educational cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia toward the end of the year, marking the conclusion of the 30th anniversary of Viet Nam’s ASEAN membership.

Offering Condolences at the Consulate General of Thailand
At the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Thailand, the VAFA Chairwoman signed the condolence book to express heartfelt sympathy over the passing of Queen Mother Sirikit. She conveyed her sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Thailand.

Congratulating the New Indonesian Consul General – Invitation for Academic Sharing
During the visit to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân congratulated the newly appointed Consul General, Ms. Carolina Tinangon, on the beginning of her term in Ho Chi Minh City.
She expressed her desire to expand collaborative research in urban anthropology, ethnic communities, migration, and cultural exchange between the two countries. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân respectfully invited the Consul General to deliver a special academic talk for graduate students, lecturers, and researchers on topics including:

Characteristics and diversity of ethnic communities in Indonesian cities;

Socio-cultural transformations amid urbanization;

Experiences in conducting urban anthropological research in Indonesia.
The Consul General welcomed the invitation and confirmed her availability for the first sharing session on the afternoon of November 19.

Affirming the Role of ISSH in ASEAN Academic and Cultural Connectivity
The November 7 working program underscores ISSH’s commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy and academic diplomacy, expanding interdisciplinary research networks, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges between Viet Nam and ASEAN countries. During the meetings, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thị Hồng Xuân also sought support from the ASEAN Consulates General in Ho Chi Minh City for strengthening cultural and educational exchange programs, particularly in promoting and disseminating ASEAN languages to students of VNUHCM and the wider community. This initiative aims to cultivate a young generation with a deep understanding of the region, aligned with Viet Nam’s integration goals toward 2030–2045.
