Within the framework of the CAFSUS Project – Mitigating climate change in agroforestry landscapes through sustainable sourcing policies, a research team composed of PhD candidates and lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) carried out two fieldwork surveys in Lâm Đồng Province (previously under the administrative boundary of Đắk Nông Province).

The main survey took place from 17–25 November 2025 in the communes of Nhân Cơ, Tà Đùng, and Quảng Sơn. Prior to this main survey, the team had conducted a preliminary visit in the same three communes from 12–18 October 2025. The continuity of the two surveys enabled the research team to refine their methodological approach and establish initial connections with local stakeholders.

At Tà Đùng Commune (17–19 November 2025), the team worked with the People’s Committee of Tà Đùng Commune and conducted interviews with coffee-growing households in Village 6 and Village 7. The collected information focused on: the history of coffee cultivation, environmental practices and production techniques, trading relationships, input–output costs, market risks, and livelihood changes. These findings contribute to understanding the coffee production context in Tà Đùng as well as transformations in the local coffee value chain.

At Quảng Sơn Commune (19–21 November 2025), during the team’s stay in the commune, they held a working session with the People’s Committee to grasp an overview of local coffee production. In parallel, the research team conducted interviews with coffee collectors, coffee-growing households, and cooperatives in Bon R’But. The research continued to explore cultivation practices, trading relationships, production costs, market price risks, and livelihood transitions.

At Nhân Cơ Commune (24–25 November 2025), during the last two days of the main survey, the team worked with the People’s Committee of Nhân Cơ Commune regarding local sustainable coffee development programs and models. The research group examined opportunities, challenges, and the adaptive capacity of farming households in response to sustainability requirements. In addition, the team interviewed local coffee collectors, producers, and enterprises in Village 24 and surrounding areas to gather further data for environmental governance and value-chain analysis.

At the end of the survey, the team conducted a debriefing meeting to systematize the collected data and preliminarily identify prominent issues in environmental governance and the coffee value chain in the three communes: Nhân Cơ, Tà Đùng, and Quảng Sơn. These findings establish an important foundation for PhD candidates to develop dissertation components and for the next phases of the CAFSUS Project, contributing to a deeper understanding of the impact of the European Union’s anti-deforestation regulation on coffee-exporting countrie.
