USSH, VNUHCM hosts and works with the Director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute on library information activities

On the morning of January 16, 2026, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (Linh Xuan campus), a meeting took place between the University and Prof. James Robson - Director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI), with the following agenda: presenting books from HYI to the University; discussing and sharing activities in the field of library information; and visiting the library, museum, and the University campus.

Representing the University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Van Quyet, Vice President; Dr. Hoang Thi Trang, Deputy Director of the Office of External Relations and Research Management; Dr. Bui Thu Hang, Director of the Center for Information, Library and Museum; MSc. Vo Thi Huynh Nhu, Deputy Director of the Center; Mr. Vu Nguyen Anh, Deputy Director of the Center; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Huyen, Dean of the Faculty of Library and Information Science; Dr. Duong Thi Phuong Chi, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Library and Information Science; along with specialists from the Office of External Relations and Research Management; and the Center for Information, Library and Museum.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Van Quyet, representing the University, extended his welcome and expressed his gratitude to Prof. James Robson for his interest in the University's library activities: “We believe that today's meeting will be a meaningful occasion for both sides to exchange and share experiences in activities related to library and information work; and to receive valuable books donated by the Harvard-Yenching Institute to the University.” At the same time, he also emphasized the desire to open up future cooperation opportunities between the University and HYI: “From these exchanges, we hope to open up practical and sustainable cooperation opportunities between the two sides.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Van Quyet presented the importance of library activities in the University's training work, and expressed the desire to connect the University's activities with HYI.

On behalf of HYI, Prof. James Robson also expressed his thanks to the University and shared about the visit with the desire to donate academic materials as well as build a cooperative relationship between the two sides. In addition, he introduced research cooperation programs and encouraged the University's lecturers to participate in the future.

Prof. James Robson presented information about HYI's activities and the desire to connect with the University in the future.

During the meeting, Dr. Bui Thu Hang also expressed the desire for HYI to continue supporting and creating opportunities for lecturers of the Faculty of Library and Information Science and the Center to participate in research projects on Digital Humanities and archaeology in particular, as well as research directions in social sciences and humanities at the University.

Dr. Bui Thu Hang expressed gratitude for the interest of the Harvard-Yenching Institute in library activities and hopes

for more academic cooperation in the future.

Concluding the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Van Quyet, on behalf of the University leadership, presented a souvenir to Prof. James Robson as a thank you for his goodwill toward cooperation. Both sides expressed their confidence that this meeting would lay the foundation for a period of deeper cooperation, especially in academic publishing activities and organizing international scientific conferences in the near future.

After the meeting, Mr. James Robson toured the Traditional Room, museum display rooms, library, and the university campus.
